It looked like plain sheet of white
paper except that it had a black dot
in the centre. Each of the ladies
attending the Londesborough UCW
meeting on Monday, April 18
received one of these sheets of
paper. They were asked to write
what they saw. Everyone focused on
the dot forgetting the rest of the
page.
So it is with life. Persons tend to
dwell on the nasty/bad/unfortunate
parts of life rather than seeing the
good of the rest of life. When Ann
Adams held up a large poster of
interesting life pictures the dot in the
centre became lost. She noted that
we need to take our eyes off the
black spots and focus on the other
parts of life.
"Count Your Blessings" and
"Open My Eyes That I Might See"
were appropriate hymns sung during
the devotional time.
Mary Ann Drost read a true story
written by a man who was having a
stressful morning. Eventually he
laughed at the situations recognizing
struggles in life are inevitable but
trying to stay positive will get one
through those times. Kim
Roetsicoender and Catherine Allen
offered four principles that can make
a difference.
• Remember that your character
should always be stronger than your
circumstances - 1 Thessalonians 5:
16-18. Try to keep a positive attitude
and a thankful heart.
• Remember that your struggles
always lead to salvation - Romans 8•
28. God will give you strength, faith
and perseverance.
• Remember that God's timing is
always perfect — Jeremiah 29: 11
Have patience.
• Remember that God will never
leave your side — Deuteronomy 31:
6 — so never lose hope.
During the business part of the
evening, it was decided to once
again assist children from our
congregation who wished to
attend a Christian camp this

summer. Contact Helen Lobb for
details. Ladies were asked to
consider ideas for a fundraiser to be
further discussed at the next
meeting. And the summer theatre
outing was set for July 5 to see a
production of The Birds and the
Bees at the Blyth Festival. Dinner at
the Blyth Inn is part of the evening
as well.
The UCW will meet next on May
16.

At the end of our last news story
we were looking forward to
performing a flash mob Easter dance
to the song, "Rise Up". What a
celebration it was!
After we reflected on what Jesus'
resurrection meant to each of us in
our Easter assembly, we boarded
three school buses and headed off to
Goderich. There we performed the
flash mob in front of the Zehrs
grocery store. We followed that with
a performance in downtown Clinton,
and finally in front of the
Independent grocery store in Exeter.
Besides the people who saw it live,
the video on our Facebook page has
over 10,000 views! What a great way
to spread the good news of Jesus'
resurrection.
Our school's mission of impacting
and interacting with the larger
community also meant that the
Grade 4 class went to the Day Away
Centre in Clinton to entertain and
play games with the clients there,
and our Grade 2/3 class did the same
at the Seaforth Manor.
The month of April means the start
of Ready, Set, Alphabet — a six-week
program for children who will be in
Junior Kindergarten (JK) next year
where they can experience school
for a two-hour session in the
morning or afternoon.
This year 27 pre -JK children
registered for the program, learning
some letter sounds, doing related
activities and learning the routines of
the school day.
April also brings one of the
highlights of the whole school year —
Grandparents and Senior Friends
Day. More than 200 guests visited
their grandchildren in their
classrooms, caught up on the latest
news with their friends in the gym,
were served a delicious lunch by our
Grade 6 — 8 students, and then
enjoyed a variety program with a
presentation by students in every
grade.
Two other events provided
learning opportunities for us. Our
grade 7/8 class travelled to London
to watch a matinee performance of
Much Ado About Nothing, presented
by London District Christian
Secondary School. We also want to

Finally, a big shout out to our
"Battle of the Books" teams who
competed in the regional
competition against six other
Christian schools. Our junior team,
coached by Annie Sparling placed
first, while our intermediates took
home the second place banner, under
the guidance of Lisa Pot. A lot of
reading and preparation went into
this event, and we're excited with the
teams that all their work paid off.
So that's April in a nutshell. We're
excited about the warmer weather,
the greener grass, and the budding
trees. All of that means that spring
time is just around the corner.
