East Wawanosh petition to be presented April 18
A petition is bringing to the light
the concerns of nearly 150 East
Wawanosh residents regarding the
"hazardous" state of the ward's
roads.
In speaking with The Citizen,
some residents have said the roads
are dangerous and are not adequate-
ly cared for by North Huron. They
were also dismayed to find that no
provisions were being made in this
year's budget to help address the
problem.
With taxes on the rise and no
improvements in sight, the residents
felt compelled to take action and see
if fellow residents felt the same way.
In just over a week, 145 people
have signed the petition, which will
now be presented in the form of a
delegation at North Huron Council's
April 18 meeting. A committee of
concerned residents who have
signed the petition will present it and
voice additional concerns to council
at the meeting.
"We are very concerned about the
condition of our roads and their lack
of proper maintenance," the petition
reads. "The roads of East Wawanosh
are a hazardous obstacle course of
potholes, washboards and washouts
which cause residents to constantly
swerve and at times drive into the
ditch to avoid losing control or sus-
taining damage to their vehicles."
The petition says that the condi-
tions of East Wawanosh roads persist
year-round, no matter the season. It
began with signatures from residents
of Nature Centre Road, but soon
expanded ward -wide from there.
"Potholes in the summer and roads
filled with snow drifts in the winter
are what our exorbitant tax dollars
are paying for," the petition reads.
"The citizens of East Wawanosh
demand that our tax dollars are put
to better use to make our roads once
again safe to drive on"
The petition asks that concerned
residents either seek out a petition
and sign their name, or attend the
April 18 meeting to show their sup-
port for the petition's cause.
