The camp, Clark said, is the largest in the world — home to over 500,000 refugees. Life at the camp, Clark said, is far from perfect, as it has a reputation of being a rather rough place. Doctors Without Borders, an organization committed to "treating people where the need is greatest" has even pulled its services from the camp, saying they couldn't secure the safety of their personnel. Soon work began with Canada's Blended Visa Office, Clark said, which pre -approves refugee families and provides half the funds for their first year and the road was paved for this family to make its way to Canada. Clark said those involved were told the process to bring the family to Canada would take between three and six weeks after they were approved. The process stretched to over three months, however, as those involved with the project had hoped the family would be in Canada in time for Christmas, and then New Year's, but to no avail. The Blyth event, which was held just before Remembrance Day, was specifically tailored to Canadians grateful for their lives in this country, informing them that things aren't so great in other parts of the world. "We need to be appreciating Canada for its many blessings, its abundance, but mostly its sense of safety — how safe we are here, I think we take for granted," Clark said in November ahead of the Blyth event. "We just had an election, a huge change of government and nobody got killed. It's a shame we don't appreciate our way of life at a much deeper level" Thanks to those involved with the various churches, a number of events are planned to help assimilate the family into Huron County. The most recent event was held Sunday night in Goderich, a pot luck dinner for the family and their many supporters. 30 The Square GODERICH 519 524 7811 FOR MOVIE INFORMATION... www.movielinks.ca long distance?1-800-265-3438 Women's Institutes on Feb. 19. Life is a circle, it goes round and round, sometimes we're up and sometimes we are down. As long as we live, we never stop learning. Tickets for the quilt draw were discussed. Marie McCutcheon will apply for our licence and Kathy Bridge offered to make the tickets. Each member is to donate something around the value of $10 to be put into a basket for the second prize. Lucy Hesse offered to make up the basket. A $50 gift card for eating at a restaurant will be purchased from Foodland for the third prize. Soybeans, corn to be planted for CFGB Continued from page 3 in Ethiopia, as it is in much of Africa. Soil degradation makes it difficult for small-scale farmers to grow enough food to last their families the entire year. Foodgrains Bank member World Relief Canada is responding to these challenges with financial support from The United Church of Canada. Through their local partner, the Wolayata Kale Hiwot Church, World Relief Canada is supporting the efforts of farmers to rehabilitate their land and grow more food through conservation agriculture. An example of the third category, nutrition, comes from rural Cambodia, where by the time children reach two years of age, almost half show moderate to severe levels of stunting due to poor nutrition. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Canada is responding by providing nutrition education, safe water and sanitation programs for 3,800 families with children less than two years of age in Kompong Thom Province. In 2016, the local Blyth Growing Project committee plans to again grow both corn and soybeans, and asks for people's continued support with prayer, labour and donations. We truly appreciate the generosity of local corporate donors including Cargill, DeKalb, DuPont, Hensall District Co-op, Huron Bay Co-op, Howson & Howson, Monsanto, Pioneer Seeds (Bill Roy), Rosebank Seeds (J.Veenstra / R.Fell), Snobelen Farms, and Syngenta. We are also grateful for the efforts of volunteers who have stepped forward to help plant and harvest; and Hensall Co-op and Canadian Agra which have donated use of land. Each year, the federal government through Global Affairs Canada (formerly Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Development) commits to matching donations that are used for emergency food assistance work (first category) on a 4:1 basis, up to $25 million. Agriculture and livelihoods work (longer-term development; second category) is matched on a 3:1 basis. In 2014-15, some $14 million in donations/transfers raised nationally was bumped up dramatically by $28.6 million from Global Affairs Canada through two grants, a five- year core grant and one geared to help Syrian refugees. The CFGB is a partnership of 15 churches and church agencies working together to end global hunger, which are listed (along with an annual report) at foodgrainsbank.ca. The 2016 proceeds from our local project will be credited towards five agencies representing local faith groups: Canadian Catholic Organization for Development & Peace; Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada; Primate's World Relief & Development Fund (Anglican Church of Canada); The United Church of Canada; World Renew (Christian Reformed Church). e v 1nein - Qkop Make Your Own Beer, Wine, Coolers and Fruit Wine (Orern here or a7 home!) 84 Kingston St., GODERICH 524-2323 11 1 Graduation GRANT R.
