Learning a lot
As part of being named Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador,
Tiffany Deitner attended the Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies annual convention last month.
Deitner, shown above, attended seminars about being an
ambassador not only for the fair but also for the Canadian
National Expo, which is a spot earned by a single
ambassador in the province later this year. (Photo submitted)
Deitner attends
Toronto OAAS
ambassador event
BY TIFFANY DEITNER
Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador
On Feb. 18, I travelled to the
Royal York Fairmont hotel in
Toronto with Mary Ann Thompson
and Matt Cardiff, President of the
Brussels Agricultural Society, for
the annual Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies (OAAS)
convention.
While there, I met plenty of new
people from all over the province
and became good friends with
ambassadors from a number of
different communities.
We got to know each other with
table talk games and fun nights in
the hospitality room.
During the days we were kept
very busy with seminars by Brittany
Gaul (Previous CNE Ambassador,
District 8 Ambassador, Miss
Oktoberfest and Queen of the
Furrow) as well current CNE
ambassador Matt Garwood. They
taught us how to be the best
ambassadors for our communities
and recounted their experiences as
the CNE ambassador.
It definitely is a huge commitment
but it also looks like a lot of fun!
We also had two nights of fun at
the evening showcases where all
kinds of acts performed for us.
After the showcase, we were able
to meet all of the performers and
many of us look forward to perhaps
booking some for our fairs.
On the Friday night, we all put on
our dresses and heels for the live
auction, the announcement of
ambassadors as well as a giant
group photo of all 91 ambassadors.
We concluded Saturday with
voting for Mr. or Miss Congeniality
as well as one final seminar by
Paralympian Neil Johnson about
how to market ourselves. It was very
informative and enlightening!
Our weekend was brought to a
close with lots of funny photos with
friends that will last a lifetime!
I had a fantastic weekend and
look forward to getting to spend
another weekend learning and
growing with my ambassador
friends at the CNE in August!
Thanks to my chaperone Mary
Ann Thompson, as well as Matt for
putting up with me all weekend.
And without the Brussels
Agricultural Society, none of this
would have been possible, so thanks
so much for the opportunity.
This is the first time in eight years
that long-time Society member
Nicole Noble, formerly an
Ambassador herself, did not serve
as the organization's chaperone.
As a result, Thompson and
Cardiff attended a number of
seminars, workshops and
roundtable discussions, as well as
the OAAS's annual meeting.
