WI considers IPM
involvement in '17
Belgrave Women's Institute vice-
president Doreen Marks chaired the
Feb. 16 meeting of the Belgrave
Women's Institute. Members were
greeted with festive birthday table
decor in honour of February being
the anniversary of the formation of
the Women's Institute in 1897. The
branch in Belgrave was formed in
1911 — quite a record!
Doreen presented a suitable
reading for the occasion. Mabel
Jacklin contributed a review of WI
history. An article about the
Belgrave School Fair was enjoyed.
This had been compiled by long-
time member Ada Taylor in 1995
and published in the Huron
Historical Notes. The first fair was in
1920 and has continued to the
present. The only time that it was
cancelled was in 1939 due to an
outbreak of polio.
Business was conducted by Diana
Robinson with secretarial, financial
and correspondence reports.
January's meeting had been
cancelled due to weather conditions.
Volunteer hours were recorded and
roll call answered with naming a
place or places that you would like
to travel to.
Dianna shared the meeting notes
concerning IPM involvement.
Another planning meeting is
scheduled for March 29 at Margaret
Mclnroy's home. An executive
meeting is booked for March 7 at
OMAFRA, Clinton to organize the
Huron West District annual meeting.
Discussion was held among

membership to do with classes at the
school fair and some possible
changes in the Institute sponsored
classes. Dorothy Coultes gave a
report on the musical outing to
Drayton for May 24. She will be
taking names at the next meeting.
"Grandma's Medicine Cabinet"
was a humorous reading given by
Mabel Jacklin to end the meeting.
The WI Grace and also Happy
Birthday was sung before the brown
bag lunch was enjoyed by the ladies
present.
The March meeting date is set for
10:30 a.m. on March 15 with a
speaker and presentation on
Alzheimer's Awareness. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
