Director of Public Works
The Municipality of Morris Turnberry and the Township of North Huron are two rural municipalities on the
north-east corner of the County of Huron. They include the Town of Wingham, Villages of Bluevale & Blyth
and the Hamlets of Belgrave, Belmore & Walton. You can discover cultural, historical, and tasty delights,
often lost in our fast paced lifestyle. Featuring rich farmland and commercial and industrial developments,
we are yesterday's tradition and tomorrow's promise. The two municipalities pride themselves on being great
places to live, play and work.
The two municipalities have entered into a two year pilot project to share certain services, including public
works.
As a result, we have an opening for the position of Director of Public Works, reporting to the Administrator
of Morris Turnberry and CAO of North Huron.
You will:
Lead and manage all of the public works operations including roads, bridges, drains, fleet and
equipment, asset management, engineering, landfill, cemeteries, solid waste, drinking water and
wastewater;
Be a key member of the joint management team;
Manage the public works portion of the shared services pilot project.
Qualifications:
An excellent track record of at least five years of experience managing a municipal public
works operation;
Experience in most of the above mentioned public works services;
Strong understanding of asset management and capital & operational budgeting;
A Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technician designation;
At least a Class I certification from the Ministry of Environment with the ability to upgrade;
Extensive knowledge of all statutes, regulations and best practices relevant to public works;
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with all key
stakeholders;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Innovative leader with a team approach;
An entrepreneur at heart who brings an open for business attitude;
Strong problem solving, computer, organizational and presentation skills;
Confident and dynamic with a proven track record of exceptional service to the public.
Some studies in public administration or management would be an asset;
A Certified Roads Superintendent designation would be an asset.
