Yoga fundraiser a success
Helping schools
Yoga instructor Shannon Scott, right, held a Karma Yoga
class at the Blyth East Side Dance Studio over the
weekend. The classes, which are offered for a donation, are
a way to introduce people to yoga and raise funds for yoga
programs in local schools. Scott is shown with her mother

Shannon Scott of SHINE Yoga
held the first of many pay -what -you -
can yoga class fundraisers at the
Blyth East Side Dance Studio over
the weekend and was thrilled with
the outcome.
Called Karma Yoga classes, the
fundraising classes allow people to
attend and pay whatever they can
afford, all of which will go towards
funding a school program Scott runs.
"The class went really well," she
said. "There were 10 people that
came out and they donated $165,
which is a really generous donation
for the school yoga program"
The program, which Scott said
was developed as a result of studies
between Kripalu's Institute for
Extraordinary Living and Harvard
Medical School, is a 24 -session
educational system which teaches
social and emotional learning skills

"Right now I'm doing it at Howick
Central Public School and working
with Grades 4 to 6," she said.
Previously, Scott has run the
program in Oshawa and Ajax
working with several groups and
recognizing great success through
the program.
"Now that I'm back here, I'm
trying to get it in more local
schools," she said.
Unfortunately, not all schools can
afford the program, so Scott looked
to these Karma Yoga classes to raise
money to help with that problem.
Scott will be able to put all the
funds she raises from the classes
towards the school programs thanks
to the fact that Blyth East Side
Dance Studio has donated the space
for the classes.

Clinton baseball
camp to
Huron -Bruce Member of
Parliament Ben Lobb is pleased to
announce the fourth annual Clinton
Minor Baseball Camp and the
expansion of the camp this year to
Kincardine, for the first Annual
Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp.
This year former Kansas City
Royals Pitcher and two-time Cy
Young winner Bret Saberhagen will
be headlining the instructors for the
baseball camp. His notable Major
League Baseball career spanned
from 1984 to 2001. In 1985, he went
20-6, won the Cy Young award and
was named the World Series MVP
as the Royals won the World Series.
In 1989, he had his best season,
going 23-6 with a 2.16 ERA and
winning another Cy Young award.
Returning for a second straight
year is NCAA head baseball coach
Mark Brew. Brew is in his 10th
season as head coach of the Lee
University Flames. He directed his
first seven Lee teams to the NAIA
College World Series before leading
the transition to NCAA Division II
and the Gulf South Conference last
season. He has been named
conference Coach of the Year twice
(2008 and 2010) and has been
named Region Coach of the Year six
times (2008-2013). In 2008 he was
named National Coach of the Year.
The Clinton Minor Baseball
return
Camp was founded in 2012 by
Lobb. In 2011, Lobb noticed that the
sport was making a comeback in
Huron -Bruce and wanted to help
foster that growth. Every year he has
been able to secure sponsors to
make the camp affordable so all kids
have the chance to participate. Lobb
is no stranger to the game of
baseball. He grew up playing
baseball in Clinton and attended Lee
University in Cleveland, Tennessee
on a baseball scholarship.
"This is an exciting year for the
camp and for grassroots baseball in
Huron -Bruce as we expand to
Kincardine. We are excited to have
Bret Saberhagen headline the camp
and welcome Mark Brew back for a
second straight year," said MP Lobb.
"I can't thank the municipalities, the
local business community and both
Clinton and Kincardine Minor
Baseball enough for all their
support"
This year's camp will run July 11-
12 at the Clinton Community Ball
Park, and the first annual Kincardine
Minor Baseball Camp will run July
13-14 at Kincardine Connaught Park
in Kincardine. It is open to boys and
girls, ages eight -18. Individuals can
register online for both camps at
www.clintonminorbaseballcamp.ca
The cost is $60 and space is limited
so register early.
