2017 IPM focused on at society's annual meeting
A NOTE FROM BETTY
Starting young
The Brussels Agricultural Society held its annual meeting
on Friday night and with that, handed out its annual awards.
Emily Burkholder won the David and Joan Perrie Award,
which is presented annually to the fair participant with the
most points in the junior section of the Brussels Fall Fair.
The Perries are seen here on Friday night at the Brussels,
Morris and Grey Community Centre presenting Burkholder
with her award. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Well, so much for the nice, snowy
winter days - rain and slush is
what's out my window as I write this
and that's just not right for February.
Oh well, another thing in life that it's
not your business to control.
We could save a lot of time if
when we start to comment on things
that are not ours, we took a breath
and hummed the song from Frozen -
"let it go, let it go..." Look at the
time, energy and breath we'd save if
things out of our business were left,
and the energy you saved put to a
cause you helped along its way. Oh
well, it's still slushy out there.
The pickle ball crew is still
waiting for you to come with your
soft shoes and try this game.
Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. is for
beginners and you need to be stable
on your feet with arm flexibility, the
equipment is there and the exercise
is good for you. Give it a try.
The Brussels Agricultural Society
had its annual meeting on Friday
with the cooking and baking talents
of the members on display as they
shared the meal, so lots of good food
for their dinner. The 2017

campaign.
A correction
In the Jan. 14 issue of The Citizen,
an e-mail address was incorrectly
reproduced in a story about Huron
East resident Alyson Nyiri and her
new career coaching business.
Those wishing to reach Nyiri by
e-mail can do so at anyiri@cyg.net.
The Citizen apologizes for the error.
Karri Anne Cameron and Teresa
Farrell -Becker, co-chairs of the
committee, spoke to council at its
Jan. 12 meeting. They outlined the
details of the project and asked
council to consider contributing up
to $25,000 to the project over the
next two years.
The project, as has been reported
in previous issues of The Citizen,
aims to take on three projects:
playing fields at both Maitland River
Elementary School and F.E. Madill
Secondary School, as well as the
Environmental Learning Grounds.
The work will focus on improving
the facilities and increasing
accessibility at sports fields and
playgrounds for a number of

reasons. Cameron specifically cited
F.E. Madill teacher Julie Sawchuk of

the school, she said.

Executive was an important part of
the evening as plans were shared for

momentum as time goes on, but for
now the ground work is being shared

The United Church held its annual
meeting on Sunday with the
celebration of the year past and plans
for the year to come. We are a co-
operating ministry with Blyth
United, another reason to celebrate
the past year of working on specific
things together. As we move into
2016, justice and outreach seemed to
be the mind set as plans were made
on how to help the many groups in
our world who are not as blessed as
we are. To be sure we're up to the
challenge, education plans were set
and of course food is always first the
plans of any church. Mind you, we
see it as socializing, so catering and
pie -making remain an important part
of our church life.
