MT starts official plan review
Morris-Turnberry Council will be
holding a special meeting on March
8 to host the second five-year review
of the Morris-Turnberry Official
Plan.
Originally passed in 2006, the
document outlines goals for lands in
the municipality as well as
identifying special features and
resources throughout the
municipality.
Council is looking at reviewing the
document, as suggested by the
Huron County Planning Department,
to make sure it's consistent with the
2014 Provincial Policy Statement as
well as the Huron County Official
Plan and Planning Act requirements.
Specific issues to be addressed
include agricultural land uses such
as wineries, on-farm diversification,
minimum distance separation
policies, economic development and
strategic planning, archaeological
assessments, alternative energy
policies, settlement area growth
allocation, classification of
settlement areas, source water
protection policies, subdivision and
condominium phasing policies, site
plan control and several mapping
areas.
The special meeting is being held
to start the review of the above
issues, as well as more areas of
concerns, prior to an open house
where the public will be welcome to
comment on the changes.
Documentation from the Huron
County Planning Department
suggests the open house occur in
May.
The document will then need to be
discussed at a public council
meeting prior to being adopted.
NH approves centre roof repair
North Huron Township Council
has approved another repair to the
roof at the North Huron Wescast
Complex.
In recent years, the roof at the
centre has had leakage problems
over several rooms in the
structure, the most recent being the
pool.
The funds for the repair were
already approved in the 2015
budget, however the work wasn't
accomplished, so at its Jan. 19
meeting council gave pre -budget
approval to spend the already -
earmarked funds.
Councillor Trevor Seip asked why
the roof was being fixed again and
Director of Recreation and Facilities
Pat Newson explained that one of
the township's oft -employed
engineering firms believes the
problem is due to the excess
humidity of the pool.
"We're asking for the $5,000 that
was already approved in last year's
budget for the project be used to
look into that," Newson explained to
council.
Council approved the expense to
have an engineering firm look at
several aspects of the room and the
roof to find a solution.
"In My Heart There Rings a
Melody" was the choir anthem. "We
Are Marching" was the children's
hymn accompanied by Ann Clark at
the organ and Mackenzie Wightman
at the piano.
The children gathered in the front
pew for story time with Brian. He
asked the children what the word
magnify meant. We wear glasses or
use a magnifying glass to make
things easier to read. It doesn't make
it mean anything different. In the
Bible it tells us that we should
magnify God and remember what he
has done for us each and every day.
Each child was given a magnifying
glass.
After the Lord's Prayer the
children adjourned to Sunday
School. We listened to the Word of
God as Shannon Bieman and Emily
Bieman read scripture from 1
Corinthians 12: 1-11, Psalm 36 and
John 2: 1-11.
For the sermon Brian portrayed
the servant Zechariah. One day Jesus
and his helper friends went to a
wedding party. It was a happy time
for everyone. There was food to eat
and wine to drink. Jesus' mother
came over to him and said we have
run out of wine.
She looked at the servants and told
them to do whatever Jesus told them
to do. Jesus told the servants to fill
the stone jars with water. He told
them to dip some out and give it to
the people.
The servants dipped some out but
now it was wine. The people drank it
and said it was the best wine at the
party. They didn't know it had been
plain water. The servants knew that
God had given Jesus special power
to do this.
The hymn of response was "When
All Your Mercies 0' My God" which
by Nancy Jardin
the Minute for
was followed
reporting on
Missions.
Larry Harper and Doug Walker
took up the offering which was
dedicated. We prepared ourselves for
prayer as we sang the closing hymn,
"Immortal, Invincible, God Only
Wise" and the benediction and
blessing, "Go Now In Peace"
concluded the morning worship
service.
Chime -in Practice followed the
church service. On Sunday, Jan. 31
the annual meeting will be held
FROM BELGRAVE
following the church service and
potluck lunch. Please plan to attend.
The UCW will meet at the home
of Donna Shaw on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at
2 p.m. The roll call is: a passage
from the Bible talking about
"rocks".
Brian says he appreciates the
support as he heads into the fifth
learning circle. He will be out of the
pulpit until Feb. 21, the second
Sunday of Lent. The support from all
three churches is so very humbling
and greatly appreciated. Blessings to
you all as he heads out to the holiday
resort of learning in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan.
He also recognizes the effort put
forward to all who put together the
breakfast on Jan. 16 as well as the
luncheon for the Taylor family the
same day. Between the three
churches, 1,711 milk bags were
collected from April to December
2015. A 40"x60" sleeping mat takes
220 milk bags, so in turn we
contributed to the making of seven
sleeping mats to be taken to Haiti.
Thank you in this effort and keep
those milk bags coming in.
During the next four weeks while
Brian is away, please contact Rev.
Richard Hall, Wingham United
Church for any pastoral care
emergencies. If you are able to help,
please contact Kim or Lila for
Sunday school teacher or Susan
Jamieson if you can help in the
nursery.
