New venture seeks to boost locals' careers
results for the area in terms of the
revitalization of the Alice Munro
Festival of the Short Story and
tourism and educational
recommendations for Huron County
going forward, Nyiri said.
Over the years, she has spent time
working in both Huron and Perth
Counties, so she's spent time
studying the economic pictures in
both of those communities, which
has helped her along as well.
She says that setting career goals
is all about exploring interests and
curiosities in the person and seeing
how those can translate within the
workplace.
When it comes to making yourself
attractive to potential employers, she
says, it's less about listing former
workplaces and responsibilities, but
more about measuring
accomplishments.
She says this is a major shift in the
workplace dynamic that those
attempting to get jobs need to know,
and with which she can help.
What she does for her clients,
Nyiri says, is very collaborative, in
that she doesn't make any decisions
for clients. She wants to help people
with whatever it is they want to
accomplish and put them in touch
with people who might be able to
help, but she doesn't make decisions
for people.
In addition, she's connected to a
wide network of career and personal
professionals, so she is able to send
clients wherever they need to go to
accomplish their goals.
Nyiri says there is great personal
satisfaction in her work. When she's
able to help to match the right person
with the right career, she says there's
nothing better for her as a
professional.
As far as her choice to locate the
business in Brussels is concerned,
Nyiri says that Brussels is her
community now and she wants to
help it thrive.
She's also hoping to connect with
other Brussels businesses to co -host
events — namely with Solace Spa,
she said, perhaps hosting a
professional consultation with a spa
component one day.

Returning with a new goal
Alyson Nyiri returned to the former offices of the Centre for Applied Renewable Energy
(CfARE) in Brussels to open up her new venture, in career coaching and resume
development. Nyiri hopes to provide career -related help to local people through the business
including grooming both resumes and people for job opportunities. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Huron East's Alyson Nyiri is now
looking to help people make a
variety of career -related
improvements to their lives through
her new Brussels office.
Nyiri, a Molesworth -area resident,
now has an office just above Solace
on Turnberry on Brussels' main
street, offering private career
coaching and resume development.
The move is a bit of a homecoming
for Nyiri, who, several years ago,
worked on a green jobs initiative
through the Centre for Applied
Renewable Energy (CfARE), which
had her stationed in the exact same
office she now occupies.
After lending her skills to career
development on an individual,
employer and community basis over
the last 12 years, her experiences
have led her to this point now in
Brussels.
Nyiri says she's able to offer her
services to just about anyone.
Whether it's a student hoping to
shape his/her classes to suit a career
stream, a person who's lost a job or
someone who's looking to change
careers, she feels she can help.
After graduating from Conestoga
College in the 1990s, Nyiri has
worked in various realms of career
and economic development. Now,
she says, with individual, employer
and community economic
development experience, she's not
only able to help someone redirect
their professional life, but she knows
what employers are looking for and
she is familiar with trends in local
communities.
Most recently before striking out
on her own, Nyiri worked for over a
year on the Alice Munro labour
market study, which was jointly
commissioned by North Huron,
Central Huron, Morris-Turnberry
and Huron County.
That work wrapped up late last
year and brought about some great

A quick change -over
It's hard to believe that two weeks ago these same students
were playing in sand boxes without toques or mittens or
scarves, but when temperatures dropped below -10°C on
Monday, the make-believe roads crew from Hullett Central
Public School switched from playing in the sand to plowing
and sanding the roads around the school. Shown playing
are, in rear, Danny Miller and, from left, Eli Baxter and
Quinn Cox in front. (Denny Scott photo)
