THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 2016. PAGE 15. Sale of Duff's United Church property draws closer PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 The start of 2016 and finally a little bit of snow to remind us we are in winter! We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season and had a good time visiting with family and friends. It has been said by many, it is hard to know what day it was! The holidays seem to mix everyone up, but all is well as we head into the first full week of January. Everything back to normal, children back to school, folks back to regular Recognized The Fire Department of North Huron recognized several of its firefighters during a special ceremony on Jan. 4. Five firefighters were recognized with certificates for their efforts in saving a life in Wingham in 2014 and three firefighters from Blyth, including Captain Paul Kerr, shown above, right, with Chief David Sparling, received pins for 20 years of service with the department. (Denny Scott photo) work hours and three square meals a day. Still lots of Christmas goodies to eat up and lots of candies, chocolates and nuts. Entertaining can go on for the month of January! Travelling around the countryside, you can see members of the Brussels -Walton Trailblazers have been busy staking the snowmobile trail. They will be hoping the snow will arrive so they can enjoy a couple of months of snowmobiling. Don't forget to get your trail pass! Christmas time is to be a time of joy and family, but three families were touched by sadness with the loss of loved ones. We extend our sympathies to all. Our sympathies are extended to Francis and Carol Hunt and Freda and Bill Kerslake on the passing of their mother, Isabel Hunt. She was 97 and had been a resident of Seaforth Manor for a time. She will be missed by eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Our condolences to all. Our sympathies are extended to Dawn Engel and family on the passing of her mother Diane Engel. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jamee, Jessica and Jordyn and her brothers Neil and Keith Turnbull. She was a familiar face around Brussels working for The Citizen and the Brussels Foodland over the past years. She was a resident at Huronlea and will be missed by many. Our condolences to all. It is with sadness to hear of the passing of Wallace Bell. He will be missed by his children Sharon and Wayne and families. He was the grandfather of three and great- grandfather of two. Wallace was a lovely man who liked to visit and talk with his friends. He farmed on the 8th of Morris and raised cattle. In later years he worked for Radfords running a road plow. He loved his trailer and the time he spent there in the summer. He will be missed by many and our condolences to all. A happier announcement is to hear of the birth of a new baby. Our congratulations go to Rob and Amanda McClure and the arrival of their daughter Aubrey. The little bundle of joy is the first child for the couple and the first grandchild for Donna McClure. Aubrey couldn't wait to be the New Year's baby and arrived on New Year's Eve instead. Congrats to all. Welcoming a bundle of joy on Boxing Day were Tyler and Jessica Deitner. They are thrilled with the arrival of Alex to make Christmas extra special every year. Proud grandparents are Kevin and Alicia and they are thrilled to add another member to enjoy their Christmas traditions. It is with mixed emotions that make the former members of Duff's United Church sad and glad. It is with sadness that the impending sale of the entire property closes the door of hope of having the church open again, but it is with gladness that the burden of responsibility shouldered by the trustees of the former church might be lifted. There are still a few hurdles to cross and decisions to be made, but there is a foreseeable closure. Birthdays at Christmas can sometimes blend in with the celebrations but not this year for Melissa Blake Jacklin. She celebrated a special birthday with a surprise party organized by her cousins. The party was held at the Walton Hall and was attended by family and friends. Congratulations to Melissa on reaching a milestone birthday! Celebrating birthdays this past week to conclude 2015 were Mark Gillis, Alaina Poland, Rob Dionne, Bryan McKague, Kandice Jacklin, FROM WALTON Greg Fritz, Elise Ringgenberg, Hope Lowe, Judy Emmrich, Audrey Hackwell, Paul Flaxbard. Kicking off the month of January and New Year's Day babies include Dave Linton, Brent Melady, Claire Mitchell, Alexandria Shahshahani, Courtney Bachert and Brayden Shortreed. Following are celebrants Michael Craig, Jason Baan, Don Nolan, Steve Henderson, Ben Hoegy, Jodi McIntosh Nurse, Marie Blake, Julie Mitchell, Caleb Ringgenberg, Logan Terpstra, Evelyn Blake, Stewart Steiss, Marjory Fraser, Luke Fritz, Judith Glauser, Susan McLachlan, Rob Mitchell, and Lucas Jacklin.
