On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold on a strong active trade at prices $4 to $5 higher. Choice steers and heifers sold $162 to $167 with sales to $171.50. Second cut sold $159 to $162. Cows sold on a strong demand at prices $4 to $5 higher. On Thursday veal calves sold on a steady market. Lambs and goats sold steady while sheep sold higher. On Friday calves and yearlings sold on a strong active trade at prices $3 to $5 higher. James Gingrich of Drayton, consigned 16 steers that averaged 1,576 lbs. and sold for an average price of $167.47. One red steer weighed 1,495 lbs. and sold to Ryding Regency for $169. Enos F. Bauman of St. Clements, consigned 17 steers that averaged 1,270 lbs. and sold for an average price of $165.09. Seven rwf steers averaged 1,305 lbs. and sold to Ryding Regency for an average price of $167. KJC McAlpine Farms of Ailsa Craig, consigned nine cattle that averaged 1,633 lbs. and sold for an average price of $164.57. One limousin heifer weighed 1,605 lbs. and sold to Ryding Regency for $171.50. Martin Metske of Lucknow, consigned 12 heifers that averaged 1,557 lbs. and sold for an average price of $165.25. Seven black heifers averaged 1,567 lbs. and sold to Ryding Regency for an average price of $165.25. There were 150 cows on offer. Export types sold $85 to $92 with sales to $97; beef, $94 to $100; DI and D2, $75 to $90; D3, $80 to $85; D4, $70 to $80. Doug Sutherland of Kemble, consigned one bwf cow that weighed 1,425 lbs. and sold for $99.50. Paul McIntyre of Lucknow, consigned one red cow that weighed 1,680 lbs. and sold for $99.50. There were two bulls selling $130 to $143. Dave Gibson of Ripley, consigned one black bull that weighed 1,950 lbs. and sold for $143. There were 90 head of veal on offer. Beef sold $180 to $220 with sales to $237; good holsteins, $150 to $165 with sales to $177; medium holsteins, $120 to $140; slightly heavy holsteins, $145 to $155; heavy holsteins ($800+), $125 to $135. Lamar Frey of Listowel, consigned five calves that averaged 873 lbs. and sold for an average price of $220.36. One black heifer weighed 870 lbs. and sold for $237. Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $322 to $325; 65 - 79 lbs., $250 to $295; 80 - 94 lbs., $208 to $215; 95 - 110lbs., $213 to $218 / lb. Sheep sold $125 to $200 / lb. Goats: kids sold $300 to $375; nannies, $100 to $160; billies, $150 to $300 / lb. Top quality stocker steers, 400 - 499 lbs., sold to $272; 500 - 599 lbs., $268 to $290; 600 - 699 lbs. sold to $261; 700 - 799 lbs., $238 to $270; 800 - 899 lbs. sold to $237; 900 - 999 lbs., $200 to $202; 1,000 lbs. and over, $194 to $214. Ashley McConnell received the Green's Meat Market Award for having the champion market lamb at the Seaforth Fall Fair. McConnell also received the Lisa Thompson Award for champion 4-H sheep showperson at the Seaforth Fall Fair. She also received the T.D. Canada Trust Award for champion 4-H sweepstakes showperson for the Seaforth Fall Fair. The Shillalah Farm Award was presented to Drayton MacKenzie for having the champion ewe lamb at the Seaforth Fall Fair. Makena McEwan received the Doug Kennedy Award for being reserve champion 4-H Sheep showperson at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The North Sheep Leaders' Award presented to a member who made outstanding contributions to the 4-H club, was presented to Max Johnson. The Lucknow Sheep Leaders' Award, presented to a member who made outstanding efforts and contributions to the club, was presented to Emily Bieman. The Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Award, presented to the champion 4-H fleece at the Seaforth Fall Fair, was given to Luanne MacGregor. The Steve Corbett Award, presented to the highest scoring member of the Sodbusters Club, was won by Scott Baan. Benjamin Speer received the McGavin Farm Equipment Award for being the highest scoring first- year member of the Sodbuster Club. The Townsend Tire Award, presented to the youngest member of the 4-H Sodbuster Club was presented to Matthew Maloney. The Sodbuster Leaders' Award, presented to top land ploughed on Achievement Day, was presented to Lucas Townsend who also won the Agvise Award for being the Sodbuster member with the highest points at the International Plowing Match and the Bill Leeming Memorial Award presented for the best finish on Junior Day. Townsend also received the TD Canada Trust Award for being the top 4-H plow person and the Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol Award for being the top 4-H member. Craig Bann won the Ross Gordon Memorial Award for best crown on Junior Day. The Bergsma Award, presented for having the champion 4-H gilt, was won by Anna Fear who also won the Huron County Pork Producers' Award for being reserve champion showperson at the Seaforth Fall Fair. Nard Ruygrok received the John Watson Award for having the champion 4-H market pig. The ScotiaBank Award, presented to the champion swine showperson at the Seaforth Fall Fair, was won by Shawn Ryan. The Russell Bolton Memorial Trophy, presented to the top 4-H club in the corn exhibit at the Seaforth Fall Fair, was presented to the South Huron Sheep Club. The club also brought home the Pickseed Canada Awards for the top finishing bale of first cut hay and second cut hay exhibits at the Seaforth Fall Fair as well as the Les and John Coleman Award for top haylage exhibit at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The Cook's Division of Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd. Trophy was won by the Central Huron Swine Club for their top white bean exhibit at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The club also received the Burn's Farm Supply Award for top soybean exhibit at the Seaforth Fall Fair as well as the Vincent Farm Equipment/Delta Power Trophy award for top educational display at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The T.D. Canada Trust Award for champion 4-H sweepstakes showperson at the Seaforth Fall Fair was received by Ashley McConnell. Libro Project Book Awards were presented to: novice winner Benjamin Speer, Jaxon Curran in second and Adeline Treble in third place; junior winner Amanda Morrison, second -place finisher Max Johnson and Michaela Rodger in third; intermediate winner Tyler Murray, second -place winner Taylor Kinsman and third-place winner Melissa Maclntyre and senior first - place finisher Brad Maclntyre, second -place finisher Allana Beuermann and third-place Maisy Jefferson. Life Skill Awards were also presented to four outstanding members; Grey Township Club, Katrina Gubelmann; Hensall Club, Ava Hill; Howick Club, Brett Harding and Wawanosh Club, Maisy Jefferson. The 4-H members who best live up to the 4-H Motto of "Learn to do by doing" were: Grey Township Club, Amanda Morrison; Hensall Club, Julia Dejong; Howick Club, Lauren Templeman and Wawanosh Club, Jaxon Curran. Melissa Higgins was honoured as the Graduating Life Skill member. Members of Huron 4-H clubs were also recognized with project seals and awards during the event. Graduation seals were received by Kabrina Bishop, Melissa Higgins, Johnny Franken and Tyler Westbrook. Taylor Kinsman achieved a 24 - project seal. Eighteen -project seals were awarded to Emma Douglas, Ashley Glaze, Bronwyn Garniss and Loretta Higgins. Receiving their 12 -project seals were Emma Baan, Ashley Glaze, Kelsey Rathwell, Josephine Snyder, Emma Douglas, Amanda Morrison and Hillary Schramm Receiving their six -project seal were Alex Coultes, Andrew Fear, Darcey Fear, Hayden Flood, Jacob Flood, Henri Frischknecht, Katrina Gublemann, Jacob Gulutzen, Luke Hendriks, Shelby Higgins, Lily McDermid, Justin Morrison, Tyler Murray, Colton Rodger, Tara Snyder, Allison Stevenson, Bernadette Terpstra, MacKenzie Terpstra, Lucas Townsend, Caleb Van Soest, Evy Verschaeve, Cole Wallace, Liam Wallace, Owen Weber and Rylin Wormington. Receiving their one -project seal were Shelby Barger, Jessica Blough, Sonya Boneschansker, Damion Brooke, Emillie Caron, Emily Chapman, Owen Dalton, Elizabeth Darling, Marie Darling, Veronica Darling, Brett Gethke, Karah Gidge, Darby Goetz, Braydon Grandmaison, Courtney Gublemann, Grace Hallahan, Ashlyn Hill, Peter Jakobsen, Lea Johnson, Drayton MacKenzie, Matthew Maloney, Ethan Price, Kellsie Price, Nard Ruygrok, Tara Snyder, Sharice Stewart, Lauren Templeman, Shawna Terpstra, Paisley Thompson, Connor Thomson, McKenna Thomson, Samuel Van Soest and Jeffery Walden. The event also served to recognize the work done by 4-H volunteers. North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent was recognized for 30 years of service with the organization while Darrell Bergsma, Marg Bruton and Holly Holyoake were recognized for 15 years of service. Margaret Vincent was recognized for her fifth year of services while Cathy Drennan and Deb Falconer were recognized for 10 years of service. Being recognized for their first year of service to the organization were Becky Bosch, Kate Higgins, Fraser Falconer, Annette MacKenzie, Stacey Feldskov, Emily Moore, Samantha Fretz, Todd Templeman and Denice Glaze.
