I'M quite sure most of you
housewives are busy these days
preparing 'the autumn abundance
Of .fruits and vegetables for wint-
er use.,
I have' ' been canning peat; •a
fruit my' family are., not too 'en-
thusiastic about.They think pears
are insipid, . and . take to' 'them
kindly only when•'' .I have' put
them in .a salad with plenty.of
more flavourable fruits; oranges
and ,grapefruit. This year I put
of preserved ginger, .lav-
ishly,, in. the kettle and boiled it
right along with the pears.Right
