was at the Caledonian Games :in
1910 when so many hundreds Of
former. Lucknowites returned ipr.
the great reunion. What I 'par-
ticularly remember about those
games was a famous tug-of-war
b et ween teams representing.
Bruce and : Huran. The teams
were well..matched and as the.
excitement 'grew • the .people
pressed .closer and closer to the
contestants. The master. of cere-
monies •appealed to • them.. again
and again to stand clear but- they
persisted in surrounding the men
who were struggling with,„ the
last . ounce of their: strength. Then
at a ' word. from the 'leader, the
pipe band from Toronto, quickly
lined up and with pipes and •
drums playing and. kilts waving,
they marched between the team
and the crowd, forcing the latter
to move back .up'' the • hill. There •
was no crowding after that.O '
