Mr. •Hoag a :musician, of some
. 'skill and - ;Versatility", came 'to
Lucknow "High"' in the . early
1940's. Seeing: the need for a.
• means of stimulating music and'
s=well school spirit, he set about
to form a band out' of the' rem,
:iiants, 'of :the old 'Town Band'.
• All. that remained from the' old
organization' was in the form. of
a `: few instruments 'which were
of that time'in:Port Albert. These
. were secured, arid. • the Lucknow.
• •1igh School Band was begun
with a bass• drum, an•' alto horn,
clarinet, a 'cornet and a ;bass
orn..Since that: 'time, ,over .one
thousand dollars has been , spent.
on instruments by the Band it
self; /which is a self=supporting:
.Organization. Music ,score too has
Bost about that . amount. '
Mr: Hoag, In addition to his
jeaching `and coaching'. work, dir-
ected ,the. ;Band; and instructed= in
the playing : of each •instrument:
Some of the original '' members

Since that beginning, fourteen
years ago, the- High School • Brass'
Band: has grown, and:''devel9ped
into a` group of '`about twenty-
five members,. :boys. •and, girls.
It has , been a constant source
of 'inspiration to the school, the
townsfolk, .a d .to ' the i .erg bers
themselves, I. through •. countless
concerts, cadet inspections'.,Carn-

Atthis time it is the• wish of
' .
the Band.. and its .director, that
thanksshould ,heextended to, the
Canadian Legion which makesan

Let us. hope. that the, young
people who:, make up this' musical.
'group will, in the future, re
ceive even ;more encouragement
from the, public than they have.

Lucknow didn't have " the . best
lacrosse team in Western Ontario,.
I told some .awful falsehoods
When I first carne* west: •-My boast
was that 'the; .old' Sepoy Senior
tea: was not defeated in seven'
years, .and only had o'ne goal
`scored against • them in four
years... Anyway they . were some-
thing to be proud of. Later a

a lack of interest, or, was it con-

of the old Sepoy lacrosse song,
written 'by • a local resident and,
I think, a"'rnari ,.on one of • the
band staffs, which. was:first sung
at ;a concert following a lacrosae
