W. Hoa . Mr. •Hoag a :musician, of some . 'skill and - ;Versatility", came 'to Lucknow "High"' in the . early 1940's. Seeing: the need for a. • means of stimulating music and' s=well school spirit, he set about to form a band out' of the' rem, :iiants, 'of :the old 'Town Band'. • All. that remained from the' old organization' was in the form. of a `: few instruments 'which were of that time'in:Port Albert. These . were secured, arid. • the Lucknow. • •1igh School Band was begun with a bass• drum, an•' alto horn, clarinet, a 'cornet and a ;bass orn..Since that: 'time, ,over .one thousand dollars has been , spent. on instruments by the Band it self; /which is a self=supporting: .Organization. Music ,score too has Bost about that . amount. ' Mr: Hoag, In addition to his jeaching `and coaching'. work, dir- ected ,the. ;Band; and instructed= in the playing : of each •instrument: Some of the original '' members were• „the two -Crispin ;boys,. 'John. •and :George, and Bill Chin,, ainorig others. M:: • Since that beginning, fourteen years ago, the- High School • Brass' Band: has grown, and:''devel9ped into a` group of '`about twenty- five members,. :boys. •and, girls. It has , been a constant source of 'inspiration to the school, the townsfolk, .a d .to ' the i .erg bers themselves, I. through •. countless concerts, cadet inspections'.,Carn- ivals,' c rn ivals,' and memorial `sonvices Atthis time it is the• wish of ' . the Band.. and its .director, that thanksshould ,heextended to, the Canadian Legion which makesan annual donation,' to the Fail Fair Board, who always ,`invite the .Band • to play; . to Mr. McKim who provides instruments at. cost pprice - ri ` : to Mr.1i11iam .
