history 'with a loss estimatedas

Three Lucknow: district girls.

out shortly after .four, o'clock last

Jean was still in the school
when the alarm was sounded
and the, students left bythe fire
escape. Nancy had left the col-
lege shortly, :before.

books, 'it is understood, and
` other quarters are being .made
available, so ` that 'studies can be
resumed ' early in January. The
' regular re=opening date `.is Jan
Iuary 4th, but • it may; possibly .be
the 11th, before classes can .be

The death 'Of Halliday Caird'
occurred suddenly at his 'lime
in NIilwatikee late '•. Monday night
of last week. He -was. 62'„years of
age. .
Rally, as he .. was .popularly
' known . in this community, was
born. in Ashfield` Township on
November 11th,' 1897, but spent
most of his life in the States
except for a period when he
farmed if Ashfield a Couple •"of

lie was a son of Aleir Caird
and . Flora. MacKay, . his mother
being a.• native/ of Ashfield. Has

Superior, ,Wisconsin, • died at 'a
comparatively •early age.

five year ago. His sister Mae,
Mrs. Russel Johnstone, died
three years a'o. •
On receiving word '. of Mr.
Caird's death;: his nephew Dill
Johnstone• of town ,left for ;Mil-
waukee to . make funeral ar-
rangements. He was .accoznpan,
ied by Fred Jackson.. Bill's bro-
thel', Don'Johnstone of Kitchen-
er,• flew to Milwaukee later that
day. The funeral was at Milwau-
kee on Friday with interment in
Arlington Cemetery. ' •
