btiririg recent weeks the cam-
'paiagn ;has • created "considerable
interest. `The pro -CTA group hag
introduced statistics in. their. ef-
'fdrt ' to.. establish that Huron is
a ' low -consumption area so far
as alcoholic beverages are con
cerned.They maintain that be-
cause no. legal outlets are per-
mittedunder the CTA, liquor
may- be considered "but of sight
-out •of • Mind."
The repeal' group has :strongly
challenged this . view. They point'
out that there are iinnumerable
illegal outlets in Huronwhich'.
dispense otherwise .legal pro-
ducts under undesirable .condi-
tions; at excessive,—prices and in
far greater 'v ,,olume'„ than most
people are aware This 'is, borne
out by, surveys.which are readily
available 'but: not usually made
public. Each . purchaser ' must
:give his home ,;,address when he
makes a purchase in e. govern-
ment. ,liquor store .or brewers re-
tail . store. •
Many people are unaware: that
under the C.T.A. ' it is illegal to.
bring • in. • liquor personally..' The
only. Method• is by Messenger or
licensed carrier.
According ,to legal opinion the
CTA does :not permit.. a person
to serve liquor to ' guests in his
home, unless they are members
of his ' owri family. 'It: is well
known that this rule is broken.
'by -practically. ' everyone; '.who
buys liquor.: regularly • or occas-
ionally, unless:he happens to be,
a recluse. -
The Huron : Citizens' Legal
Control Committee has '`main-
tained a policy in 'theirpublicity
of presenting the facts " and leav-
ing the decision entirely up to
the voters.
