Smiley Every year,, in our family,, we spend more time talking 'about our holidays • than • mostpeople would if theywere planning ' a trip around the world.. • If the.. vacation • was for ' a month, three weeks, or,•even two, there might be some point in all the ,talk. But the. entire deal• Consists of one . week, ' And .one. wee '.» holiday is about. -as bene- fi •cia' }'l 1 a s.one drink for an alco , holie., It merely gets the recipi-- e#it upset, and instills a mad .dem sire •'-for more. * * =k Some years we'. have 'attended weekly newspaper conventions pri our holidays. They are usual- ly held about . 7000 miles from T1•14.LUCI NOW SENTINEL, LUCKNOW,. O1 TARIQ PAGE SEVEN' home.. The holiday involves. weeks of discussion about ward- robes for both hot and ,cold wea-' tiler, half a dozen firm decisions that we can't afford ,it, and, end- less fulminations toplantthe kids with somebody. • • In the end, wedeelare roundly toeach other that were only young once, and take 'off in, a• great • flurry of last-minute re servations and irritations. And what with, all the social events, the late hours and the long trip, We arrived home completely. fagged and e4ually broke,, the last two bucks having been spent on presents •for the kids, :grab- bed at the 'cigar, stand' in Union Station, on , the ( last lap. !of the journey home. One.., year, , we decided to just stay. home. I was going to paint the trim on the shouse, On- that occasion ' 1. learned two :things: that you •can't get • much • trim painted when you knock off every half hour for refreshments; and., that II am. constitutionally unable to. work with the Old Lady as straw :boss. That 1ear, I' ; got two and . a half windows Painted, and they sat like that - for about three •years, • until they faded back into the shabi-. ness` of the rest.. of the •trim. ** Each year, : during the fall, winter and spring, we have long,. amicable, and ' reasonable talks about our holidays.. My wife ag- rees that it is only sensible that a man who has a mere week should get away 'from his wife and •family, go on.'a fishing trip, or . get off with some •'male friends. . *.** And each' year,.. "hien my week's holiday looms, she stops being a logical human being and reverts to being a woman, She is not orpii-ig to be stuck at home with the kids.' while HER, hus • /• band goes larking off for a week with the boys, enj oying.:h,imself thoroughly, It's .my firm belief, stated .on. many ..occasions, that a ..man' should get away from his family once .a year And every .hot, dis-. gruntled, irritated male tourist I see walking a horde of demand- ing youngsters and a cross,. per- spiringwife i , merely confirms this: opinion. . * * Mind you, I think .a woman should get away from herfaro- ily once in a while,.. too. Every three • or four years a 'wife should be allowed :to , go and visit her: .mother, or one '.of hersisters, for two car 'three days. In theory. What burn's her up is that mens appear to have a wonderful time when they go on a holiday with other men, and women are just not interested in going on •.a jaunt with other women.
