three of the Huron .Township
Schools,: Nos. 5, 9 and 13 to forrn
one • area . school at Reid's Corn-
erthes,, reunions are the ' order of
. day. .
A committee of six men•. and
their wives of school section No.
13 on the 4th concession . was.
chosen • recently to ' make plans
for a final reunion. On the com-
niittee are Bert Irwin, Chairman;
John Meoharles, Jack Scott, Cliff
Geddes, Wesley Robb • and Wil-
frid Steele, •
, Effort, is being made to con-
tact as, many of the. foriner tea-
chers and pupils as possible and
,the hope ,is that Many' will re
turn to .their place Of learning
for a visit and social gathering
to be held atthe school grounds
on the afternoon of Saturday,
July ' 25th. •
This school. section known • to.
many 'as Verdun was established
in .the year 1888 with Mr. Robert
Leslie the first. ''teacher. The
building was of frame structure
and, was built on the boundary
between Geo. Lanibertus; and
Stephen .3lrwin's farms, half the
slot being : bought.' from' each. A
well . Was, dug at that time and
Was, in use until ,1958 when the
present well was , drilled:' .,
very • interesting.: account of
the first entertainment' .held
the .first :school' is • outlined in the
history .contained in the Tweeds-
muir History. , compiled by the
Reid's 'Corners' Worimen's Instu=

In 1890 the', Holy' Bible was
made the book for religious study
/rather than the Ross ; Bible .which
had -teen used hitherto. The first,
•seatsand. desks were wooden and
were `replaced With new ones in.
1892., • These: were used until
1949 wwheil more ':'modern ones,
were installed.
In 1901; the present brick''school
building was erected• and with
many changes- end'improvements
taking.. place throughout • the,
years has served. the , community
well.•
Many names. of teachers who;
taught. in this 'school ' are ,listed
in the !history,, several of which
have gone to their • reward ' while
many others are living in dis-
tant' .parts end.,some close by. It
is the :hope that those who can,
will be present. to 'help •'make this
reunion a memorable success.
'In . January 1937 music .was
taught for, the • first time ., by a
special m1usic instructor. Seven
Musk teachers have; been hired
throughout > the years following..
