arden Joynt Hopeful Nuclear
ydro Plant Will Come To Bruce
Warden George W. :Joynt is
hopeful and "reasonably optimistic
that a new $60,000,000 ••cornmer-
cial nuclear power station' - the
first in 'Canada — May be • lo-
cated in' Bruce .County, north of
Kincardine. There• is `nothing of
ficial; yet, Warden' Joynt pointed,
out, but. he has been aware of
the project for some time, and'
has been . in close touch with. de-
:velopments and with. A: E: Rob-
" inson, M.P. for Bruce who has
beendoing his utmost ,to "sell"
Bruce/for the enterprise: Mr.'
Joynt 'expects to meet with the

A, spokesman for the Ontario
Hydro • Electric • Power Cpnm s-
Sion confirmed' last week that.
some preliminary options had
.been taken on sites along the
lake edge.
The hydra .generating plant,
nuclear -powered, would produce
some '200,000 kilowatts of power.
Test boring to • determine the
suitability of : the. site .will be
carried out this summer, - .
.The station will be designed to
Use . natural uranium as a fuel i
and heavy • water to transmit!
heat from the atomic reactor to

Not a 'large , plant in terms .of
production,' it :is expected to be
completed and. • in operation ,by
1964-65, producing electricity at
a price competitive with coal -fir-
ed plants of similar' size.
Because': the • plant will; be Wat-
er-cooled .is one'; of the reasons
why this :area of southern Ont-
ario is •being considered: 'Another..
consideration is its readability to'
tie in with existing power .lines:

Interviewed' in the . matter
Warden, .'Joynt • predicted esta-'
blishment of such a plant in
Bruce. would be the ;forerunner
of reduced hydro 'rates for many
sections, of the County, possibly .
opening the way to industriali-
zation of several hitherto untie-
'veloped areas.
Mr. Joynt felt the plant, if
located in Bruce,, would bring a
great measure of .relief' to "end ..
of line" -'latid'communities fr~on1.

been "paying through the nose"
for ,hydro because of their lova-
tion..
