Rev: Father Van Vynckt came
to Canada from Belgium in 1927,
following 'whichhe • studied at
Laval University, Quebec,• and
later took 7?heology • at. St. ' Peter's
Seminary, London,. . He was or-
dained to the priesthood on 1Vf ay
26, 1934, at St. Peter's Cathedral,
London, by ;the: late BiShop John
T. ' Kidd..
Hisfirst : appointment was as
curate to Father J. Mahoney' on'
June 6, :1934, • at Lasalette. • On
March 20, 1935, he became assist-
ant pastor :to. Father. E. F, Goetz
at Our. Lady of the Help Church
at Wallaceburg.:His first appoint-
ment .gas. pastor . was ` at Sacred
Heart 'Church. at Lan:Mon • on Oc-
'tober 15, 1941.
'Ori •June, 28, ' 1962, he became
pastor: of St. Joseph's : Church,
'Kingsbridge.

Katharine MacKenzie, Reg;
nurse, passed away at Smiths
Falls on May 15th 1959,' follow-
ing almost a. year of illness:

she was a •daughter of the, late
Catharine. 'Clark ' and John
Kenzie:
Forty some Years ago she grad-
uated . from Victoria Hospital,
London, winning a scholarship for
post graduate training at West-
ern
University: Upon • completion.
of . this' course •she became 'a Pub-
lic. Health Nurse , and : worked in
United States for:a few years;
17 years in , North Bay, and 13
years in 'Smith .Falls.
She is .survived: bye sister,

Mrs. John Miller , of Lucknow
and her brother' .Alex MakKen-
zie of the " 4th of Kinloss and
several neices and nephews. She
was, predeceased`: by. her sister.
Elizabeth; Mrs. Tom Gaunt ,in -
193:6.
A 'funeral . service was held at
St . J'ohn's Anglican . Church,
Smith. Falls: on. Monday, May 18,

JAMES. JOHNSTONE
There passed away ' in the
Wingham ' General' Hospital on
Tuesday night, May:1'9th, James
Johnstone,. in' his 83rd year.
One of a family of eleven, he
was • born on March 9th, 1877 in
Ashfield ToWn.ship,• near Lanes,
and was a son of James `Sohn
'stone and Mary ' Ann Marshall,'
He was iria.rried to Clara•Gates
of Ripley on June lst, 1910 and'
shortly afterwards moved to
Lucknow 'where he was •'in' .they
coal. W and livestock shipping busi-
ness;
On November 13th, 1914 :Mr.
Johnstone was severely burned
and left ' with badly , crippled
hands. In spite of this, he re
„covered'well enot411, to "parry on
and make ' his own livlihood. 'In,
'1923. ;Ihe. purchased . the livery;
stables from Mrs.„, Alban .McLeod
which • he :.operated so long as
there was a : demand for: horses .
for hire, and . as a feed ?barn
The barn was, sold to the late
Jack Maalritosh around 1950, • to
be
used as the first Lucknow •
Community Sales ,Barns.
The funeral, service held at the
Johnstone Funeral Home on Fri-,.
• day afternoon, ,was conducted by
Rev H. L. Jennings, with .inter-
ment 'in • Greenhill Cemetery.. Six
nephews `. acted. as pallbearers. '
They were . Eldon Culbert, Jim-
my Hunter, Harold , Johnstone,
Gordon', Johnstone, Clarence' Ir-
win and . W. J.• Irwin.”
