ployed at The Sentinel.: Office.

Mr. Sharpin 'is 80. He isa na-
tive of .Gorrie,` where he;'learned
the printing. ,He came ' to.-•iluck-

James ` Bryan for three years,
leaving in 1901 'to:. take, oyer` the
Gorrie Vidette paper. Fellow em-
ployees included 011ie Matheson'
and Art Wesley, the latter be-
coming editor of : the Walkerton.

The Women's. Institute spons-
°red a lovely Daffodil tea in the
Holyrood 'Hall on Wednesday af
ternoon in ' aid of the Cancer
Socie
ty. Ladies., were present
from Lucknow,; ..Ripley, Kair-
shea, Walkerton, Reids Corners,
Kinlough and Holyrood. • Mrs.
Frank Maulden, H.W.I.'presid-
ent, welcomed the, ladies in her
pleasing manner and Mrs W.
Hougham and Mrs. Nepthel, of
Walkerton expressed, thanks. to
the Holyrood W.I. for sponsoring
the tea and each spoke •briefly
in connection with the Canadian
Cancer Society 'and what it does
in the' way of research and .assis-
tance;assis-
tance that could and would be
given a cancer patient if re-
quested. Each speaker was most
interesting and distributed liter-
ature on cancer, which if detec=
ted in` its early stages, can • in
most instances be . cured. Mrs.
Harold. Haldenby and .Miss Mar-
ilyn Thacker each favored with.
pleasing, vocal solos. Mrs. Torn
Hodgins: and Mrs. P. A. Murray
gave enjoyable readings. Mrs.
Morgan Johnston . and Mrs. 'Bay-
nard Ackert delighted the ladies'
'with 'a vocal duet Mrs. Sam
Farmer' of • Holyrood and • Mrs.
Divelle of Walkerton were 'each
Presented . With a lovely ...bouquet
.of flowers as they celebrated'
their birthdays' that day and all
joined in singing "Happy Birth-
day.,"

ister, and Mrs. Wm. Eadie was
receptionist. Delicious ,. refresh-
ments ` were ;served by. the ' Holy
.rood ladies and a most enjoyable
afternoon 'brought ` • to a close..

quilting a fancy quilt. A dainty
lunch'• was served by the hostess.

the meeting.' ' •

Cereal' Queens attended .the' 7th
meeting at the .home of • Mrs P.
A. Murray. Preceeding •the, meet-
ing rice pudding was demonst-
rated by Mrs. Murray while San-
dra Percy 'made, wheat germ
muffins. The 4-H pledge ;open=
ed the' meeting. • The roll . call
was "My Completed record
book." Final plans • were made
towards the skit, • "Saving with.
• Cereals.`' to .• be presented on
Achievement Day: Muffins were
judged and the reasons. taken
orally. •The tasty cooking) was
sampled and dishwashing closed
the meeting.. ,

DISPLAY MAKE/DONATION
The May meeting of Kintail
W.I. was held in our new Kin.
tail Community, ;hall ,with; the
new president, . Mrs.. Helen Mac-
Lennan, presiding. The Institute
Ode., and Mary Stuart ' Collect
opened the meeting. The'roll,call,
was.. answered by :'telling where
our ,mothers .• were ,born, There
were 13 members and 3 children
present. The district annual was
discussed 'and it was ..decided that
Mrs: Helen MacLennan •an d, Mrs.
D. Parrish would take up the
collection at 'the district 'annual
in St. Helens on May 20th. Plans
were made for catering to the
Lions : Supper on Monday :. night.
Ten dollars was voted to the fall
fair and it was decided to. dis-
play .12 , Half mans; at the. fair
this. , year. ' We . ,were ' favoured
with a lovely Mother's Day read-
ing by Mrs. Mary Collinson and
Mrs. Jesse Alton was our 'dyna
mic auctioneer . for our ' •Auction
Sale. Grace was sung afterwhich
we enjoyed ' a lunch • served , by
those in 'charge.

the. opening ode, the Mary Ste-
wart Collect and business, Miss
Hazel Webster .capably spoke on

your. own Fireside:" We were fa-
voured

Brooks and : Jane Joynt accom-

guest speaker was Mrs. E. Suter,;
the theme being Mother's Day. •
