• The .death. of Mrs. George Gil-
christ, who• ,,had endeared her
self' to many in this`, community
during 'a' 13 -Year residenee,oc-
curred late : Sunday evening,
March 29th : in ' Wingharn• ' Hospi=
tal, where she had been' a . pat-
ient for the ''past month;
Mrs. Gilchrist was in her 80th
year, : . and had 'suffered from. 'a
heart condition` for' the.: past 7'/2:
years. She had been confined to,
bed sincemid-Decenm�'ber.
•Mrs.` Gilchrist Was the'. former
Ethel `. Smyth, daughter of Wrn.
Smyth and Annie" Brooks, and
was :born on December 29th, 1879
in •'...the . Paisley -Port Elgin'.` dis-
trict -.on the townline of ! Bruce
and Saugeen.
In 1900 she 'married George
Gilchrist and they farmed in
that . district, for 38' years irk
Greenock, .`• before moving to con.`
4, Kinloss; 'thirteen' years ago on
•the. 27th': of 'March:,' 1946:' .Mr.
Gilchrist :.died on April 27th,' 195.1.'
Mrs, Gilchrist had a gentle and
.gracious refinement, and was of
a friendly and kindly ; nature;
that '.won .her • Many friends. She
Was. a devoted Member of .the
United Churchwhile her health
had permitted and .she was a
life member of Pinkerton Unit-
ed Church,
The funeral: service was held
at the ` Johnstone Funeral Home.
