They made the brilliant • discov-
ery • that Marlene •: can't sing, and
annoyed her with puerile ques-:
tions about being a grandmother.
'Of 'Course' sb'e. can't •sing, and
never: could. But she can make
the skin crawl -on the back of
your neck withthat husky snail..
And, grandmother or not, there
is ,more sex appeal in one : long
look from above those haunting'
.cheek -bones, one twist of that',..
heart -broken smile, than in all

pouter 'pigeons of half her -age.

Miss • Dietrich : hadthe role of a
'woman of ill • repute. •:I thought
she. just worked. , in this Mbar,,
maybe as a singer or something.,

or of hers, and was enchanted.
She smiled, that rueful, knowing
