time soon • I am ' going . to visit
your fair town` and find out. Ac-
cording to Cecil, • there is no
other place in all 'the world that
grows apples so' tasty, or pro-
.
duc es '.maple syrup so good. But,
if I were to try and tell you all
the good ' , things that have been
told'k-xne by :him I could fill page
'after , page. It, is enoug : to say
that he -is very fond of his home
town • 'and ' has really interested
me enough that, I will some 'day
visit there,
In the March 23rd edition of
your• paper appears- an article,
"Scots, alas have 'no iMac;
• Sc Pa-
tent" 1 • got a : big kick' out . of
that for it brought back to mind
the' many-, debates that 1 listened
to . as a boy in my father's home..
You see I am half Scot and ,half
Irish,
,went to school in Belfast,
Northern Ireland for six years
and four years in Scotland, Be-
lieve me ,it was fun 'listening in
to those discussions. • None of
them ever seemed to be settled,
and when ;I . went overseas and
visited those same relations, the
same arguments, were going on
Even • in war • they felt very
much put out if some, one
thought that a, good Scots name
Was spelt any other• way than
Mac, and the Irish Mc.
Celtic People like to talk of
their 'family, and their families`
baccomplishments, Cecil " is no
exception. He claims that • his.
family is English, • I, have often
told", him that even though his
grandfather came from England,
that . originally ; the Armstrongs
are a proud old. Sottishfamily+.
I 'don't think he believed me,.
and quite often l .have thought
of letting him read a book •, I
have here • at home entitled, "The
Tartans and the Clans and Fami-,
lies of Scotland," It makes in-
teresting reading. •
Itere is• a tittle aboht the
Arrristro
ngs.. We first hear of
'Sir Compton •'.MacKenzie, mod-
ern ••Scottish Historian says, and
I quote, • "If you wish to arrive.
at the origin: of Scottish Royal-
ty, -one intist go.+back'to Ireland."
Kenneth McAlpine brought about
a measure off unity to Caledonia
in the 1 lth `Century and it was
then that' the name Scotland was
acquired:.
`I will conclude with' the slo-
gan sof. the 'MacNaghten's•"Fra
