ROSEMARY THYME
Last winter I •read,` • and. took
'very,' very seriously : so many
books on nutrition; that .I1 still
have a • guilty conscience if,I'
.give . my family ' anything, .. but
raw fruit for dessert.' • Occasion-
ally ':we '.might 'have `ice'. cream
and a very plain light' cake, •. or
a ” milk pudding.; Sometimes I
• stifled my nutrition=conscious
consciences and made pie, .:even;
an' .occasional mince pie, . 'though
pastry; is unpardonable.
T • .must be .going . all to. . the

Wednesday . last at. the Chesley.
and ' District Memorial Hospital,
where he -had been a.tpatient for
a few weeks. Mr. Matheson. was
in .his 83rd year and • death was
due to a cerebral thrombosis;.
Murdo waswell and widely
known` in this 'district; He was
a former. . reeve of Ashfield
Township, and always . was, ac-
tively. interested and fluently
conversant in ;political matters.

brother, Rev., William. • Matheson
ministered at Chesley: •
Mr. •Matheson at an earlier

20 or 25 minutes :.until the yams
are nicely glazed and the chic-

platter • can go right to the table
or you could use • two ovens glass
pie' plates..'
'We .'had :a •tossed: salad, lettuce
and' endive, wedges of tomato,
:celery sliced, bits of olive and::
rings of : Spanish onion (I Yearn-
ed' for the•' red Italian onions; ,but:`
'they aren't available now) with
French dressing. It • isn't always
possible to get endive in •;small.
places—in fact,. I.haven't seen
for some time in' our ,small. city.
It is a deeper green, than lettuce
and very curly or tfrilly—makes
a most attractive,• salad green.
Trythis sometime. We . had a
tossed . salad 'One other night;; and
I ':found `• : myself" fresh out • of
French dressing: and • so 1 ' , :thin
ned my -thick, boiled dressing
with very .;,thick, tomato ; juice.
The result was a soft pink ;•dres-
sing, which looked very charm-..
ing with the pale green of let-
tuce and dark'green of endive as
a foil, & my husband said it was
the nicest .salad ;we had had for
a Tong' time. .
For dessert 'last night we had
a big glass plate with raw fruit,
just sections of'. grapefruit, *ran-.
.ges, bananas, sliced; thickly and
dipped in 'fruit ' juice to prevent
darkening, small Wedges of
pineapple, and: here- :andthere,
over the top, those huge' black.
grapes—a beautiful colour corn-
bination;- The black •.grapes aren't
always • obtainable either. My
last . shopping, expedition, ".to • our
little 'city was • very .'re'warding.
With thefruit plate • serve that
