Accident, Record In Bruce During
Past Year Makes Action ; Im
' perative,; Meeting Decides
"Something . 'has . to be 'done
about farm ,accidents:" This ;was
the. opinion • of a group of 90
farm,_ men' and • women,. from
Bruce • County who • attended .a;
Meeting last Thursday and' or-
ganized the Bruce, 'County.. Farm
'Safety Council. This.' will ' be • the
first' .organized effort .to reduce
• the• number of accidents to farm
;people ' within the county.
The -complimentary dinner and
meeting officially concluded the
,1959 Farm.- Accident Survey.
Early" in 1959, . through • the • coy.
operation • ,of the Federation : of
Agriculture. and. the farm "people
themselves, .'• 141'• reporters were.
.chosen. •from. .all parts of the
county: This group accurately
recorded ; and reported all acci
dents to all farm people.'for ;one
year .beginning: March l'st, 1859.
To' date over. 350 accidents 'and
14 fatalities have .been recorded.
and they are not all -in yet: ,.:In
Ontario the total number of ••0c-
cidents is well over 7,0OV and
the fatalities ' numbered 223 in
the first nine months of the sur-
vey. . •
