The death of Mrs. J. G. Mur-
doch occurred in ,Toronto on
Monday, March 7th, within five.
days of. her 89th birthday.. She
was •:born in Luckliow oil March
12th, 1871 and lived here for
close to sixty' years; when she
was.:a beloved—'resident, and has
always been kindly remember-
ed by those who knew her.'
' Mrs. Murdoch moved to Tor-
onto in 1929, the year after her
youngest .son Alan had died. in.
February 'df '1928at the age of
14 due to a head injury received
in a skating accident on the Nine.
Mile River,• near the main street.
.Mrs. ,Murdoch had been left a
widow. in 1915 by : the , sudden
death . of her husband, one of
• Lucknow's prominent mer,
chants, 'who .had . been in the
'dry goods ibusiness here, since
•moving• to • the Village 'from
Lochalshwhere he .Was born
and. ' started the mercantile (busi-
ness, ,
•Mrs. Murdoch was the former
Emily Jane Peart, daughter of
Mr. ;and Mrs. John . Peart. 'She.
was.born in Lucknow 'on March
12th, ,1871. Her father, z a native
of Newcastle, England, operated.

Butcher Shop is now located,
and ' Emily worked in her .fath-
er's

January .1905. She was ; a .half
sister of the late Mrs.. George
Greer.
Mrs. Murdoch sang in the
Methodist ?Church choir for

ry), Were'Widely known 'for their`
singing of duet.' ;numlbers, and
thrilled : ma�iy a. congregation
and ' public audience .with their
harmony. They sang ,for a nur ,

leadership of W. H. Smith.,.
M.S. Murdoch . had been a'
member -of - Huinbercrest-United
church, in " Toronto since" 1930.
A service was held in Toronto
-on Tuesday evening, andthe
remains were brought to Luck-
now, . where .. the funeral Service
was. held at the McLenann and
MacKenzie' Memorial. Chapel on
Wednesday conducted . by ; Rev.
Gordon Geiger of Lucknow
United Church. • '
Interment was • in ` the family
plot •in Greenhill Cemetery, 'the

At the. March meeting, Kintail
Women's Institute. members wit-
nessed "accelerated production,"
in true ,form.
Mrs. Bert Alton, an ,expert in
"domestic: .science," shared .her
knowledge in 'the area of yeast.
mixtures, rolls, buns, etc. This
was. not done • in . theory alone.
Mrs. ,.Alton brought; "along" a•
batch of .•softdough. With hands'
in it, she proceeded to prepare
buns ' and pinwheel sweet. rolls
with skilled action, all the while
answering questioris..'and provo-
king .questions.'
Product in pans; she.. took
another step, whipped up a
batch of the initial . yeast mix-
ture, and set .it away to rise. ' A
full b,,enefit: course, all . in less
time than some ladies spend de-
ciding whether, or not they have,
a good ; recipe. " ••
There was also at this meet- •
ing ''sufficient time ' for, business
and a contest. The roll call, ` An
