and Lucknow Auxiliary has' en -
something good .to' say of a. per-
son, say nothing.," My dad taught

has proved even more valuable
— how to get along with 'a
woman who never stops talking..
And .my youth was good, top,
Football' in the fall, and going
steady with a first love. Read-
ing everything I could get My
hands on, ` far into the small
hours; and dozing through school
next day. Roaring off' with the
boys to a country. dance of a
Friday night, and sparking • the
firm farm whenches who 'are all
mothers now,' and gray. Off to
the university, a,. dashing' foreign
correspondent •well.. isguised as
a hick of a boy:

The draw for the picture was
made by Mrs. Lloyd Ashton and
was won by Mr. C. Panto?, l g-
linton .. ;ve,,• Toronto. The Aux
diary would, hike to, thank Mrs.
MacRae for her kindness •in hav-
ing, the picture displayed in her
shoe Window. The Ladies held
a Dutch. Auction at this meeting
which, was quite successful..
Another. ' picture has been offer-
ed to the Auxiliary by one of
the members to . be drawn for,
to start , off 1962. The 'Auxiliary
now has tickets ori a quilt.

And then:the : war, ;and all
the.
dear, good,: hilarious .friends, and
the fineqirnes, and the big scares.
Most of the friends were• killed, . •
and ,it hurts softie. ; But now ,'I.'
give thanks:.for them, that they'll,
never • grow ,old,:an�d bald: and
sunken-cl eeked, and pot-bell•ied,',
and hand -eyed; and sick.
There was lots to be, thankful
for after the' War,, too, says this`
littler not that's been . pushed in.

big • brown eyes and . wagging;.
tongue of ;their -mother, 'and .the
sweet 'nature '• of . their. 'dad. And
;cheap as dirt They've cost only
about $8,000 ' each to ..raise. But
the :dividends, are' Starting. to
flow back in. 1 can now wear
my :son's socks, :and do,'. when I
:can't' find a • pair of `my o'vvn, and.,
I'm sure` I won't :.be . out, ' except
after. dark.
And,'ten lively years in the
newspaper.. business, and . I
pose a man should he: thankful.
he was never' horse whipped,'
shotgunned or'; even fisticuffed.
duringthat eventful decade of
poking his nose.. into all the hec-
tic, turbulent currents of. :small
town , life 1 I
Then into the teaching,. and I
thankful, .I like. :the youngsters.. :.I
It would be:pure hell if •one' did-
n't :And here's another • Thanks-
giving gone by, and 'I've only.
begun to •touch the things: 'I'm'
thankful for T •wish 'they'd hold'
