Native of Ashfield
Died In Hamilton
MRs W R BEGLEY
Mrs, William Richard ' Begley
of Hamilton died in Hamilton
General Hospital on Thursday
evening, . May 25th in her 75th
year. Her. death came just. eight
weeks after the , passing of her
brother,; Herbert- C, •Curran sof
Ashfield Township.
On Tuesday, Mrs, Begley suf-
fered" a seizure in, the basement
of 'her home and in falling re-
ceived, a severe head" injury. She
passed , away tyro • days 'later " in.
hospital.
Mrs. .: Begley • was the former.
Sarah Ellen 'Curran, known . ibet-
ter to her friends herr' as Nell:
She was a daughter ' of John
Curran and Sarah Ann Ryan, &
was• born: on Con. 9,. Ashfield.
Her •'bereaved husband is' a` na-
tive of the D,ung•annon district
-and, a first. cousin of Mrs. Mar-
garet .Sproulof. town.
Mr. , and -Mrs. Begley , have
made their home ' in Hamilton
for ,over '55, 'years, but • returned:
here 'frequently • to visit, and
keepold. friendships, ; renewed.
Mr, Begley, is not in the best of
health, having suffered a heart
attack • enroute to the funeral
•of his •brother=,in=law two rrionths

The third problem to be con-
sidered is the area of pooling. If
it is for the whole Southern On-
tario area there is no •problem,.
but there is, a difference in q1 -1 -al
ity between a Grade A, .corn fed
hog carcass and a Grade A car,
casa from a hog fed on a oat -
barley ration;` This could cause
dissatisfaction ,since • Grade 'A
hogs 'from areas of a high corn
ration have been selling 25 to
50c below other l'areas..
If boundaries for areas are to.
be •set: irpthe difficulties , are
great. 'Again perl?aps • w. e should,
wait a Tittle before we make, a
decision. •

According to the Ottawa. Report'
only one manufacturer has 'pre

reluctant to -supply details of op-
eration that ., are needed.' How-
ever the' Committee :is planning
on ' visits 'to thevarious: plants
and hope . to get a better idea
of operations, ,It iS unlikely .that
the Committee will be able. to
'report to this' •session of parlia-

n Hog Marketing
(By J,.,Carl Herningway)
The new Method: of selling,hogs
has been in:.. operation -r• 2 weeks
at time of writing and. has al
'ready' brought 'forth. some 'con.:
flictirig views and. complaints,
The price increasethat has
come: about is quite. , acceptable
but their, seems to. be 'conflicting
opinions as to how much' credit
should 'go to the new 'method of
sale,.. The: number c'of' hogs going:
to' market • hardly justifies the
change in . 'price,:Perhaps we
would do well 'to wait a little
before forming Opinions. •
One thing.' thatsemis to be
causing general dissatisfaction is '
the wide variation inprices from
day :to•,''••day and • even:' on '•th'e
same day. The result • seems '.to
be' requests for, the., pooling of
the price so that :over .a given
.period :.the price would be the
sante to all producers. .
,4s •,has • been stated many times
by'\the Hog Producer marketing
Board•, it can be done, However
in the past' the powers that con-`
trod the , regulations under the. .:
Act have 'told . •us that new re
gu ations would • have to' b'e pas-
sed and: perhaps a vote of pro
-ducers would be necessary te•
make pooling legal. •
Now the Hog •Marketing Board .
have received :some indication
from the Farm Products Market- •
ing Board that pooling in price
Could take place without any
pgrtieu1ar • difficulty., • Definite
clarification will have' to come
from 'Governrrient before any ac-
tion can be taken. • • ° '•
The second consideration is the
period '-over "which the pooling.,
Would take place, If on the basis
of orie week • there .would be
apprecia!bly•, increase in costs of '
operation. Most farmers would be
,several.days late lit• receiving
their cheques. If 'the period were
by. the quarter' interim paymen'ts
could be necessary and ohequing
osts would increase ,by Some- I
