A CIVIC` DUTY '' TO COMPLY
TheOM
'tune' 9f year approaches w.hten.
most ,urban'centres become: embroiled in.
the: question of dogs; versus lawns, gardens,
shrub's. and flowers. Not the least of the
coi plaints come, from ;,the parents ! of•
children who can't play on their own
Ian withoutgetting into the filthy messes
left by other • .people's dogs
The , local approach' of municipal of–
ficials should be effective in requesting .and.
requiring the co-operation of dog owners
in solving the problem".'.
By-laws are a ,dime -a -dozen to enact.
The fair and successful enforcement ',of
them is not so easy—in fact, is 'scarcely
possible.
Dog owners should recognize their re
sponsibility in : this regard and act . to curb
their, rampant canines from driving.' other
citizens
almost to distraction. It is 'a Civic
duty, which if not complied with, leaves
municipal ..authorities little alternative but
to legislate, ' or set . the dog Licence fee °' at;
a prohibitory level.
The ` man -who weighs his ,words retains
his `; balance.
Safety"' sign';' Watch out for: 'school.
children -- especially- if:they're .'' driving."
WHY DELETE IT!
There are always: some who seen!. ins
• tentupon, divorcing the word Christian. from
our daily living: ' Such an :effort was recent-
ly made by the, Resolutions; Committee .o f
• ',.the Ontario: Federation of Home' & School'
. Association_ •
.
' The resolution, submitted at the ' an'-
rival meeting of the' Association; was not
pressed but it. may in the future rear. its.
,'head : again; It' was in. effect 'to , seek an
amendment of .' the, Public: ; Schools Act
whereby ,the word Christian: would be de-
leted from the context' in respect to • the.
duties 'Of a `teacher..
The clause in question 'read., in , part as
follows:. ''to inculcate by . precept .. and ; ex-
' ample; respect for religion ,ancl.'the princi-
ples of : Christian. morality
The term Christian, it seems, is offen-
.sive to some.. Surely education' • in its deep
;est significance must include an emphasis
on spiritual values. •Fortunate it is that there
is a semblance of Christian education' in the
schools, even though it may be only open-
ing devotions as classes' assemble At.that,
it, may be more' than .some 'children are re-
ceiving in the home.: '
.May .our' materialistic trends which:
condone and aper' o re of an ever increasing
commercialized Su day, pot deteriorate to.
the point, where we agree to wrenching the
word Christian from our. Pubhc•School Act.
