the L.D.H.S*' Spring Formal, at which• Par-
ents, teachers' and :school board members
• were .among the invited' adult guests.
For' the dances. evidenced the imagin-

, efforts and enthusiasm• in carryirig out their
ideas. The • decorations • 'at' the ,
were; particularly, lovely + and. original.
But, more ' important was
lary, deportment.: Not only were thestud..
ents '. and' their young guests
and gowned, but they were well-mannered
and well-behaved.
THE ' FA1R GOES ON
The Lucknow Fall Fair which had
reached the crossroads from lack of'.leader-
ship, is to continue to function. In fact, the
uncertainty that existed for a time as to its
future, may well prove a "shot -in -the -arm."
Evan Keith is to be conatulated in
consentingto carr on for another term,
-and' it behooves 'everyone who is interest-
ed in
nterested':in ,the future of the fair to support it,
whether or not a member ' of the Society.
The Fair. is nearing its centenary birth
day and when that time arrives substantial
provincial grants will'. be. received in re-
cognition of a' oe. tury of service to agri-
culture.
Never in the ,-ears, the *fall • fair has
been held' at its. present : site, have . the . f a-
cilities; been -better, or offer greater oppor-
tunities , for improvement, .
Few but will'" admit that the. Fair. has
improved; in recent years and : the potential
for ' further, improvement and expansion.,
has considerable scope.
Much . could be accomplished ' if• the
same
i ,time were spent in boosting and
• "talking P u " the fair, as is spent by some
in discrediting it. .
It would seem at this . distance that
President John F. Kennedy . and 'liis`t'advis
ors .havebungled an opportunity to try to
heal the ,Cuban breach. The new admin-
istration had the ..opportunity .: tog o .the
`second mile which' would 'seem p.,referable
and certainly more effective than the hum-
iliating failure of the strong-arm measures',
that were approved an supported.. Hurl;
ing threats and. innuendoswill not stop 'or
embarrass the forces of. communism. *Our.
democratic system must be .,convincingly
sold as the 'preferable way of .,life.' •:The ".
United'. States, . while earnestly 'devoted to
the .cause 'of the, freer 'world; has' repeatedly,
lost' face and prestige by; trying to. ,out-..talk
out-guess and out-manouvre the ruthless
',dictator 'of ' the ' U.S.S.R. Let's hear Tess
