birthday on Christmas Day,
There seems; to ,be some ques-
tion; as , to whether Mr. Ross . was
99 or 100 on, that ' day. Various
newspaper . clippings that re-
counted the athletic: prowess ..of
'this 'statwart Scot indicate him
•to be 100. Family records show
his., birth as December . 25th,
,; 1861.
In 'any .eventhe is a remark-
able, •gentleman,. and still, enjoys
,comparatively ;good: health.
• A clipping from the Presbyter-
ian Record reports him as 99, in
refering to the" -presentation of
an .engraved silver tray and: a
Bible by the Parkdale Congre-
gation. Mr. ROSS has. been '• a
Member of that church `for' 63
yearsand an • elder 'for 45 years.
To hand at the same time is* a
Masonic ',bulletin containing a.
item from Kilwinning Lodge,, 565
of Toronto; extending heartiest
:congratulations. to Mr: Ross On
his one hundredth - birthday.
In the 'days of the famed, Cale
donian Games in Lucknow, Mr
• Ross;; was the IHuron-Bruce
Champion in '1889 & 1890, when
he tossed the caber, it the shot
and, .:performed other. feats . of
strength . and skill.
He joined • the Toronto : 'police
'force in 1890 and later organized
the Police 'Force Pipe Band,.
which became a noted, organiza-'
tion. Mr. Ross tutored every
member of that •origina•1 band: .
