fice. Both places of business lost
about $20.00; which .,was on land
for change.'' In addition some $60.,

tained at Rathwell's Store, -as
Jerry, who is the Club treasurer,
had some recently paid _dues on
hand.
The breakins are believed' to
have .occurred/ some time, after
1:30. a.m.' on .Saturday' morning
• for police' had been, on patrol
here until that time, as a result
of • an early.. -. evening entry at
Urnbach'`s. Drug, Store.
Elmer''Umbach : had been :.out
• of town early Friday -evening and
had returned and entered, his
premises about "9:30. A -' short'
• time after, while' in - the dispen-
sary. of "his store,: he heard loud
noises in the basement.:, Turning
on the lights to investigate, he
found the basement door forced
open, and reached thee' srnashed
door •in time to see a party. -flee-
ing along the , back alley, with-
in -ear shot of shouting • a warn-
ing at him. -
Police were notified' and were.
onpatrol until the. early •hours;:
of Saturday -:morn ng.
An investigation along the al-
ley ;revealed, a single ' set , of
' footprints had approached most
of the basement entrances' of.
business places 'along 'this sec-
tion 'of the south -side alley. This
was ' before ten o'clock and ap-
peared like a reconnoiter. tour.
On opening for business. Sat-
urday morning, the •Rathwell and.
Sentinel 'breakins were discoveT
ed. Constable -Alex Havens . w
informed and ' in turn notified'
Provincial Constable Jack Hatch,
who• investigated along with Mr.,
Havens. Entrance' to both build-:
ings had /been gained• by using
a' sharp tool to penetrate the door
frame around thelock area. The
Sentinel Office door is locked" by

congregation to supply' the funds

to borrow funds.
The budget allocation for 1961
is $2,300.00.
The membership of the .church'
has increased by 8 for a total. of
267. members. The Sunday School
has an enrolment of 103 incl`ud
- ing' teachers. The average atten-
dance 'for 1960 was 81.

SKATING POPULAR
For the. 'first time in the his
tory of the',village, Sunday after-
noon public ' skating made its
debut at the arena from 2:00 to
4:00, on Sunday, and saw the larg-
est crowd of skaters to throng
the ice in, .a'long :.time
Even the weather mark ca -o
erated to provide a keen, sheet
for the youngsters, young; peo-
ple • and oldsters who ` turned ,.out
'for a' Sunday afternoon .skate.
The numbers skating exceeded
the best Saturday'. attendance,
afternoon .end evening, combined,
in the experience of the present:
caretaker. • A silver collection
was rec'eived, .With; a generous
response."
Those who • skated or were
'among the many .spectators, voic
ed ; hearty approval. The crowd.
Was orderly• and well. behaved
with no boisterousness to, mar
the experiment.
Two -members; of the Arena

ger were in attendance. The co-
operation of the • skaters was re
quested and , at the close of the

Donald B. Blue, R,401 baker,
and auctioneer, is , convalescing
at his home from severe injuries
received ' when struck by a : • car
in Ottawa while atending the
recent Liberal rally.
Donald had a ' (broken collar
'bane and a broken shoulder from:
which it • was . ne'cessary to re-
move 'some. shattered' bone, and •
later it was discovered he '•had,
a broken bone in his neck.
Mr.. Blue had just completed
conducting Dr.-' D. A. D. Milne
and A. H. Walsh of Kincardine'
and'Chester Merriam of Tara on
a tour of ` the Parliament Build-
ings. They -were on foot, and;
were dust leaving the main gates,
of the ,government grounds to.

corner. Mr. • Walsh .. just missed
being struck' but Donald 'was
thrown onto the hood and against
the windshield of the vehicle, &
then ' fell. to the • pavements.

where' he was a patient 'for ten. •
days. Mrs. was
