been "batching pit. " That is, if
there's such a thing as a bache-
lor', withtwo great, galumphing
,children, 1 have, No, my wife
hasn't left 'me,. Nothing as. .ex-..
citing as . that.
I ' hadn't been left alone with
the • kids :for years -not ' since
'they • were quite small,.. In those
• times, we all enjoyed it thor.
*uglily when Mom went away
for a few days. Not' only .did'we
get the Old . iBattleaxe off, our
alecks, but reverted joyfully to
the pigs that .men, , •and small
.ldrea really are at heart.
':We ate whatever and when-�
ever. and wherever we pleased:.
We let the. dishes pile up in..
thesink and fthe dirt pileup on
the floor, with , -equal . indiffer
ence: We wore 'tie same socks
for days. It was a, :real -holiday;
even though we caught supreme

turn out to be meat .pies and ice.

acoiate bars and 'pop,:. or cherry.

loved my cooking,, .'and there
was never a scrap left . over.,
Somewhere in the intervening'
years, these youngsters 'have
t been ruined. They've turned into.
horrible little conformists.. They.
want meat' 'and' potatoes and . re-

,that 'sort of • junk that dirties a
.lot . ofrhes and. is, also :pretty
.dull. And in between Meals, they
have 12 little snacks each, strew -
ink a, sordid .trail of cookie
crumbs, :banana. skins. and apple

During the , last decade, she has

faithfily, and to our faces, that
we are set,' thoughtless and
Useless. We just shrugged it off.
