LettersTo `:Editor
Wingham; Feb. 23, 1062
Dear: Editor •
During the year 1962, Farmers
are going to take a good look at
producer -controlled marketing &•..
throughout the year there will, be
a. number of marketing plans.
presented• and. voted upon:'by the
producers. The hog producers are
being given in opportunity. .to
endorse. the' .hog marketing. plan.'
Egg . producers are,. not. :satisfied
with the 'returns from their lay-
ing flocks and will, be ;given an
opportunity to ,sign a petition re-
questing a' vote for an egg rear-
keting plan .' •
Due to the Marge 'surpluses of
butter and ' skim milk powder
which we have, on• hand today,
milk • producers « have.algreed
among. 'themselves • that . there
should be an overall milk .mark-
eting plan and a vote 'on this
plan will likely be taken later in
the year. Turnip . growers and
processors agree that a Market-
ing plan would help their' indus-
try; . Potato growers are also
considering a rriarketinjg plan.
Many large beef producers &
.commission agents are advising
producers to , sendall finished
cattle to the open market. z am
convinced' that only, then will we
be able • to obtain • the highest pes=,:
sible price. for our beef cattle, .I
believe that if all • producers
would agreeto 'place their, live-
stock on the open market a mar-
keting pian would not be neces,-
sary for beef ,cattle. _•
T have been associated ' with
the Federation of Agriculture for
many years 'and have attended
the ' short 'course on marketing.
'and co-operation at • Guelph. I
am seeking an answer to .the,
,,problems which • face the farmers
today arid:. todate the only an-
swer 'I can find as 8. solution to
our problem is to support . mark,
eting plans
I believe it is. unnecessary for
me to advise the • producers re-
garding. the • hog vete on .Maroh
6th. Being • a producer for 'many
years, I ;know the ,hog Market-
ing. plan is beneficial to the pro-.
