As far as is 'known the "Bruce In 1900 Mr. James' S. ' Anderson
Beach Summer Resort" had its purchased. the Kennedy and Jack-
origin in 1894, On the twenty- son cottage; It was in .this year
fourth : of • May of that year a picnic that the religious. services .were
party from the village of Ripley first held each Sunday ' evening..
met in Mr. William Touts. grove.
This grove is situated along: the
shores of Lake Huron.
Between the sixth concession of
Huron and eighth 'concession the
party, among others, com-
prised the McInnes, 'Munn, Mac--
Crimmon: and : Jackson families.
During ,the. course of the day it
was . suggested that such an event
might be frequently held.. '
Whereupon Mr. Angus Munn sug-
gested. a .place nearer the lake and
led the party along the shore to .a
spot where cottage No. 7 now
stands. / '
During 'the same year the first'
. cottage was ereeted :by Messrs.
Kennedy and . Jackson on the site
where cottage No. 12 now stands.
In 1896 Mr.McInnes & 'Mr. .M unn
each built a cottage. .
For some years these three
were theonly' cottagest in, the col-
ony. It was then `' lrnown as Ripley
Beach.

,Up until..1903 the population had
been composed entirely of the lay
element but in this year the :• cler-
ical element appeared inthe per-
son • of Rev. Robert Martin whose
arrival signalized 'a clerical Move-
ment towards the beach, which
has resulted in the addition to the
population of manyothers of that
profession.
In '1904 thebeach became known
as "Bruce Beach;" its name was
given to it by Mrs. James S. Ander-
son..:.
In • 1907. : the Bruce Beach Golf
Club was organized and : it has
done much to enliven and: ' invig-
orate the social' life of the beach.
In 1908 Bruce Beach Campers
Association wasorganized and:
shortly. afterwards the. Association
instituted field day and regatta
day sports.
In .the year ;1914 ' the Golf' Club'
organized a Tennis Club. In• 1915
the beach had • grown ' ' until . its
boundaries : extended : north to the
eighth concession. , In' 1917... it ;ex-
tended sti er north: 'In this,
y t cottage were numbered. t
Owing' to t northern growth
of • the . colony, , the. place of .the
Sabbath service 'was moved from
the McCosh• flats to Touts' flats.
In the. year 1920 Sunday School
.was • organized. The ' same year
steps 'were taken to provide greater.
facilities for sport. The following'
year a Tennis:' Court was provided'.
in each division; •
Steps were taken in 1921 to • se-
cure a 'title to the ground on
which .the cottages were• . built,
as a result a Provincial Inspector
visited the beach in '1922' (August).
In 1923 the Government. sent; in
a surveyor' and the ,:beach .from
the' sixth concession to the 10th
concessionwas surveyed ' into 66.
foot lots : and rental • `charged at
$12.00 per annum for.. each ' lot.
In '1925 a church :house. was
built in which• to store 'the .organ,

liner, but not one of the support-
ing acts took. second place, They,
were all good Hal .Bee, , the
equilibrist; Sharon Strong, whd.

and personality; Jack 'McLean,.
the impersonator; Jack Bateman,
the "Wacky Wizard of Magic".
Bob Finlay, , president of the,
Lions Club', spoke briefly before
turning the show over to Johnny
Brent, the master of ceremonies.
Al Cherny and His Westerners
got the show off to a toe tapping
start and Earl Heywood contrib-
uted vocal selections. The Cherny
group. accompanied the perform-
ers' and. fllayed for the .dance
which followedand which proved
that the new. concrete floor in the
arena has "ballroom floor'. :poss-

Although 'hydro . was discussed
in 1931 the line was not built - till
1938. During theyears of war
from 1939 to 1945, were quiet years
at : the;. beach:
In the year . 1944 the beach
celebrated their Golden' Jubilee.
At that time there.; were 176
cottages. ' over ' the past twenty
years many changes have .taken:,
.place. ' Many more cottages ' have
been, built. From the tenth hill
the road is paved to Kincardine,
making it a safer road for travell-
ing.
