West Wawanosh Township. Coun-
cil held their regular meeting on
l uesday., August 4th. All memb-
ers,-
ers,- present.•
Ona motion. by Councillors
Smyth and Lyons, Twp. Council
• agreed : to accept a petition, for
drainage. work (municipal -drain)
from ratepayers of Concessions' 11
and 12. : James A. Howes, O.L.S.
Listowel was authorized to make
an examination and survey con-
cerning this. drainage project. Mo-
tion : carried.
It was moved. by Councillor Jef-
ferson and._ seconded by Councillor
Smyth that. Township- council ac-
cept the tender of Frey Drainage
and Construction Ltd., Elmira . ,&
for ° the • construction of the Durnin
Municipal drain for . the sum. of
$3690.00. Motion carried. Council
still has . to receive the Ontario
Municipal Board's approval in re-
- gards• .to the. financing of this,
drainage work.: ,
On., a motion by Councillors Er
r• ington and Jefferson the Clerk
was .instructed to order sufficient.
pipe for the Durnin Municipal
Drain.
The Road Superintendent repor-
ted that:he-finished putting gravel
and calcium .. chloride on 'township
• • roads... Also, that 'one swath of
.grass . and weeds had been cut
along the road sides. 8,760 cubic
yards of gravel . had , been ' crushed.
Of this • ; amount, . approximately
1,000 ;cubic yards were stockpiled
and the price for stockpiling gra-
vel was 60c per cubic . yard.
Council •was informed that
work Was •progressing • . favorably
at� the.. river playground park, .on
Concession 6,. East Wawanosh.
The road accounts were .passed
for. payment on a motion, by Coun-
cillors Smyth and., Lyons.:

Family Passes
ELIZABETH HENDERSON
Death came • unexpectedly on
Wednesday,, .August. 5th to Miss
Elizabeth Maud Henderson at
Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home in.
Lucknpw . where- Miss Henderson
had been a patient for a lengthy
period. She was. 76. „ •
Miss Henderson . was thelast
member' of,' this: family .and spent
practically all herlife in this.
community where she was . born.
and raised, She was the daughter
of James J. Henderson and Abigail
MacKenzie and: was born in • Ash-
field Township on August '.18th,
1887, but ' • for• aslong as. many
residents can ' remember, the
Henderson home : had been on
Havelock St. 'at the "Silverwood
corner." •
In later years Miss Pearl Hen-
�derson and her; . sister.. Elizabeth.
made their spacious home into a
seniorcitizens' haven and Eliza-
beth :carred this on for a time,
while.. health permitted,: after
Pearl's ' death. Tliey . , also had .es-
tablished the Best -A -While Christ-
ian guest. home at Bruce Beach.
Miss Henderson was a;. devout
Christian lady. She , was ` a life
member of the W.M.S. of Luck -
now ' Presbyterian; ; Church, which,
she faithfully attended,. and where'
she had given long service as a
Sday.. School teacher and was
aL4o a+ member of the choir: for
some years: .
As the .local telegrapher . and
"Express ' agent; ' Miss ' Henderson
became well and:widely known
to the general public of this com-
munity,. She held this position for
some 45 years, with . the Express
Office located' inthe building 'ad-'
joining the present Sentinel Off-
ice. Miss Henderson. taught many
youngpeOple" to "ready the wire."
She . retired in 1952 and the . tele-
graph 'and express service, has
