Lightning Played Capers Here
. 'Single Copy 10c
Escape'Fatalities
It Hit ViIIage
A brief, but "violent electrical
storm late Tuesday afternoon of
last week, was felt. in at least
four homes in the southerly part
of the Villageand it was for-
tunate that fatalities and fire did
not result.
Most damage occurred •to the
home; of Norman Taylor, .and . it
was 'indeed a blessing .that the
.retidence, was unoccupied at . the
time. The Taylor family were holi-
daying on Acton Island, north of
Bala. They received the message,
'delavered by boat that evening in-
forming them their house had been.
struckby lightning. On Wednes-
day, they returned. to townand
on Friday went back to their'
holiday resort, ,where Mrs. Taylor,
Terry. and Neill are spending this
week. .
The lightning is believed to have
followed' the hydro Able into the'
Taylor home. The base board,
. plugs show signs of the "scorch,
ing." The television connection was;
blown out of the receptacle. Fuses
• were blown and the hydro and
• telephone knocked out, • .
" Shingles,. were ripped. from the
east side of the. roof on both
sides. of the gable as the bolt
blasted , its way,,. out of the house.
Two finger Size holes through the
-
roof which was heaved, indicated
fore one bedrooni was pretty
much of a wreck. •
Forty square feet of • piaster
was torn from the walls and for-
cibly hurled, about the room,;' to
a degree that some. was imbedded,
in furniture. A cotnbination lamp.
and electric clock on the dresser
was shattered) with the clock
mechanism ripped out and the
hands shot across the. room.
A hole wasburnt in the bed-
spread in this room .and a.sheet
scorched,. to give Some idea of
how :close it was to pausing fire.
The damage made. it inconceiv-
able' ' to think thathad. anyone.
been in the home, they could have
escaped. injury 00 or' death.
