Dear Campbell: /
Well at long last here I • am
and' I should have Written: long
ago but one puts it off for • so
long that you are. ashamed 'to
write, •
As you can see by the above
address I am back in the ' north
not . in. the country of little sticks
as I used' to call it, but this
time up in the barren lands and;
it is 'sure well named.
We still have winter here. In
fact 'this morning, at four a.m. it
was one above zero and we., are
still in the grip of ice and• snow.
We have perma frost down here
close to five hundred, feet.
The day I arrived here I hap-
pened to look out the window and
what do I see but a big timber
wolf crosing over' near camp. And.
we . also have both red and arctic
fox and arctic, bears for neigh-
bors. • •
Cam, how : is the old . Sepoy
town? How memory takes . me
back to the barefoot days ' . and
my many happy memories..
I. believe you are going to have
a. visit from Billy and Mrs. Pan-
ter' this 'summer. He was raised
at "Big" Jim Webster's on the
Boundary. .:I was at a bigfare-
well . for Bill.: in March when he
made his last/run:'as an engineer
on the CNR afer forty-three years
of railroading: •
So we got. Ross McDonagh 'man
ried ' off. Well, I . warned him but
'it was no .use.. These young .fel-:
lows will not listen to an 'old-
timer
I. would' like to send.' a special:
hello' to ,all the Andrew, Lane, and'
Webster clans, also. a special re-
membrance to Andy • Thompson
and Lorne McDonald, . also Mary
Andrew and your own 'dear moth
er.
Kindest Regards,
Big Jack.. ('Webster).
on the ground to a .2 . burner gas.
stove with oven and -broiler.. And
I .expect the meals are the ,same..
Some - people actually ' sit ; on the
ground to , eat, some : have ,fold
ing tables and. ' chairs ' outside or
on their `verandas' and some have
tables ,fastened' in their trailers.
As I said, there is one water tap
and always 'a queue filling the
water holders of every shape, size
and colour of plastic.
Tonight is the last night for
most campers. Bonfires.- are al-
lowed and all • day people " have
been carrying and dragging.., wood
from the forest for fires 'tonight.
I expect it will be a pretty sight
after dark.
There aree people of ; all ' ages
and ` sizes too and their dogs of
everybreed making themost of
the first long week -ends of the.
season .— and : such perfect weath-
er too. In spite of the.. fact that'
this site. 'lacks some comforts, .we
wouldn't have missed . it for any-
thing. Wish you were 'here too.
Sincerely,.
