Unit 1 United Church Women
The May meeting . of . Unit 1
of. U;C,W., Lucknow was held at
the home. of Mrs. Steve Stothers
with ' 16 ."members arid one visi-
tor. The president, Mrs., Omar
Brooks, .opened the meeting with
• a hymn.. Thea roll call ..was ans-
wered with 'a .flower of the Bible.,
Mrs. Chas,: Hallam the secretary
read the minutes. The treasurer's
report was:, given by •Mrs. Charles
Webster, Community friendships
reported on visits, to hospitals and
convalescent • hoe. Mrs.. George
Stuart reported on •Stewardship..
Mrs. Richard Martin .took the
chair -for•. the program. • Mrs. Kel-
so MacNay read the. scripture
.:and. meditation by. Mrs.' Martin.

Unit'. 2'• United Church .Women.
Unit 2 held their May meeting
atthe home of Mrs: Alex, Andrew:
Mrs.;, 'E. Wightman •opened: the
meeting, with a ' poem. Hymn : leo.
379 was sung. followed . by a
Mother's Day : prayer hymn.
The roll. call, "One of Jesus'. Pro-
mises" was answered' .by 15 mem-
bers. ' The minutes were read and
adopted. Reports were given. Sep-
'tember is our month to place, flow-
ers in the church. In ;pctober; in
memoriam flowers, may be placed
in the church by any members so

desiring.. A special' collection ' was
• taken to ,buy a' gift -for a 14 year
old boy. This was part of our allo-
cation for Presbytery. Mrs, W.
Henderson was ,appointed to pur-
chase this gift and give it to Mrs.
A. E. McKim.. An Overseas Bale
of good, clean clothing will be pack-
ed in June; Plans were. made for.
the Smorgasbord: •It was suggested
that We. • visit the 'Ontario Hospital'
fat Goderich. Further .,plans will
be made. '
Miss • Hazel Webster took the
chair. for 'the program. A Hymn
was sung and psalm 729 was re-
peated responsively; Mrs. C. Greer
readthe scripture; Luke 15, verse
11-32 with Mrs. W. Wharry giving
the meditation, followed by prayer.
The' Lord's ,prayer. was repeated
in :unison.; The :record "Peace, in
the Valley” was enjoyed: Mrs. J.
W. 'Joynt capably : dealt with the
topic "Agriculture in India". More
people farm in India -than the.pop-
ulatien of Canada and United
States combined. The mapority , of
farmers do riot ' own . their. farms.
India is desperately trying to im-
prove their farming > methods .---

Unit 3 United Church Women
Unit 3 U.C.W. met at the home
of: Mrs:. Sam Alton. The .roll call
was answered with an exchange
of flower: slips, and 25, members
were present:: In the absence of
the -president, Miss Ada .Webster,
Mrs. .Harvey ' 'Houston. • presided,
and opened the meeting- with,
prayer and meditation. Mrs"• Alex
McNay reported that proceeds
from the bake sale on , Saturday,
May 2nd totalled $66.75, :Several
members. "volunteered, . t o place
flowers in .the ,church during the
month of JunesThe worship per-
iod was in charge 'of Mrs. Or-
land Richards, with Mrs. M. Hen-
derson • and Mrs, C. '.Downey. The
theme was Evangelism and ' win-
ning others for Christ. , Mrs: Dow-
ney took the' topic on India: Mrs.
Breckles gave .a musical number
on• the mouthorgan, and recorded.

Unit 4 United. Church Women-'
Unit e of the U.C.W. held its
May meeting . at the home of 'Mrs,
C. Crawford, The hostesses were
Mrs.. R. Campbell, Mrs. • Wm.
Eadie •and Mrs. G. Johnstone.
During„ the worship service, Mrs.
J. Allin ,played some piano selec-
tions, . interspersed with recollec-
tions of her early days at : the
/piano. The 'topic. of the month
was ably given by Mrs: G. ';John-
stone. .This was a talk on the
work done at the Hospital , and
Training,,: School at ' Vellore,: India:
Mrs.. Johnstone paid particular 'at-
tention to work done by a •, para-
plegic. surgeon, Dr. Mary Verg-
hese, , who after a .motor accident
which left her with: only. the use.
of her./arms and 'head, does :sur-
gery from. a wheel' chair. Because
of. ,her disability, Dr. Verghese is
particularly interested . in the re
habilitation of crippled ,and . dis-
abled patients. After; discussion of
business, the ' meetin g came to an
end... with an. hour- of fellowship
and enjoyable . `refreshments' .sery

dealt with Indian women ' and the
'place : they take in thecommunity
and world which was a challenge:
to those who have so many op-
portunities. . Mrs.. Dennis • gave a
reading titled "Blessed, be a ' Mo-
ther."

met in the church ;on Wednesday,,
May 6th, ' with 60 .in attendance,
An invitation head been extended
to -the ladies of Dungannon, Ash-
field and Hackett ' churches, Mrs,
M. Henderson opened the meeting
with a poem "working with God."
A word of ,welcome was given' to
the visiting ladies, and those. of:

was the::guest speaker, and spoke

and. Meditation' "Does God 'Care"
was given ' by Miss Nellie .Mal-
colm, . Correspondence read by
Mrs. • M. Henderson,, stated that
Mr. and Mrs. A. McKay of India,
would speak at the Presbyterial

Ashfield ladies rendered a %uar-
