The legislature reconvened on
Tuesday; April 14th. The ;estimates.
of ` the Dept.\ of Public : Welfare
and the Dept. of Tourism and
Information. The°Minister of :Tour-

stated that there are more people,
with more money and more time,
demanding more facilities which
can come up with a satisfactory.
solution by co-ordinating and more
strictly, enforcing the powers ;that
the police already possess in deal-
ing with criminals. Co-ordination

a prerequisite to controlling crime'

On Thursday , of last week the
Police' Commissions reporton
crime,: in, Ontario ' was discussed.
This : report, of . course, showed
that organized crime existed in
the province in the fields of gamb-
ling,
narcotics, counterfeiting and
prostitution and :was directly re-
sponsible for theintroduction in-
to .the legislature of the. contro-
versial Bill ' 99 : commonly , known
as the "Police State. Bill." This
bill wasdesigned to curb the
criminal element in . our society
which 1...am sure 'every responsible-
citizen' in the province would want
to do but, unfortunately, the bill
went too far inits application
and . the' offensive section 14 had
to be withdrawn because it could
affect the basic rights . 'of all cit-

The feature attractioln of the.
April 17th meeting of the Lucknow
and District Horticultural Society
held in --the Town Hall, was the
showing of nature . slides by Mr.
Harold Eaglewith commentary by
Mrs. ' , Keith Comfort, both of
Beamsville, Ontario.
The showing of these very 'beau-
tiful ` slides was preceded by two
chorus numbers • by the Junior
Horticultural .'Society. The Juniors
were attending the meeting' as a
group to receive their .allotment
of garden Seeds. Another number
which pleased the . large gathering
was two . violin selections by Mrs.
Blake Alton. Mrs. . Cumming was
at the piano for both the" chorus
and violin numbers.
The committee in charge of the
program was convened by Mrs.
Wm. 'Wham and included ' Mrs.
John Emmerson and Mrs. J. •Y .
Joynt. Mrs. Wherry chaired the
program and read Wm. • Words -
worth's "Daffodils" and commen-
ted 'on this well known poem.
During the business meeting
several thank you, notes wereread
regarding the Easter Lilies placed
in the .. area churches by the Soc.:

Some names were placed . for
the June ...18th bus trip to. . Guelph.
If you plan to: go, a get .your name
in early, as first come will be
first. seated,
is that it should ' be prophetic,
priestly, . and pastoral. Under the
heading of prophetic he emphas-
ized 'that---a--prophet- is -not :one -
who forecasts, the future, but in-
stead one who speaks to his time.
The ministry should be prophetic
in that the. Word of God, through
preaching,' is related -to' the . times
in • which we . live. The need of
keeping a ' proper . balance ' be-
tween the Word and the ' Sacra-
ments' was emphasized under.
"priestly." Canon. Appleyard,
, said
that during his 30 -years of ser-
vice, the pastoral . ministry . had
probably ' been the most enjoyable.
