Red. Wings. f,
Since shortly. after last Christ-
mas young Paul 'Henderson has
been skating up: and down'right,
wing for the Red Wings, a fact
that has:by ' no means gone un -
by the slightly more than
1,000 happy .inhabitants : of this
pleasant Bruce County village.
In fact, you might `say he ap-,
pears to be the . biggest thing to
have come out of .Lucknow since
butter. Ane Andfor Lucknow, butter
is':: a pretty big thing, It's A the
Village's leading export :item.
People don't like to come right
out and say that having a native
son in the NHL puts a village like
Lucknow on the snap. They like
to believe it's already on the map.
However, many of thevillagers
.take the view of Councillor Har-
vey Webster, who put it this way:
"It's hard toimagine just what
a' thing like this means to •the
village. It's really a wonderful
honor and everyone, . just every 1
one,is happy about it."
Or, . like grocer . Cyril .Brown,
• who proudly explained: "Paul
came to. work for me when• he
was just a youngster. He's a fine
boy. I amproud to call him a
friend."
And in case you have any, doubts
`about the .sincerity. of Mr, Brown's
words, you -have only to, look to

could have filled several': buses,"
said an. amazed Garnet Hender-:
son, Paul's father and MR tic-
ket. agent. •
Not Along ago Mr. Henderson
arranged for, a package deal that
would get .Lucknow fans to De-
troit by `bus, into the game and
home again for a total of :$9 each.
"My gosh, they had every seat
on the bus bought up within two
days.of 'the. ' time " I; announced
the deal," he said.;

"I: thought~ the phone would
never stop .ringing," explained Mr.:
Hender.'son's ; wife. It seemed as
if many: ,for miles around' wanted
one." Arrangements: /are being
made:. for similar trips during the
playoffs..
If . all "this seems like too much
of a stir to . be caused by one
likeable hockey player, thenmay-
be 'it should be pointed out that
Paul ; Henderson is . the 'type' Of
person who does•. things in a spec-
,tacular way whether he wants to
or not:
For instance, Paul had to be
spectacular even about ` the way;
he ; was born.. He , came . 'into

was •being pulled to Kincardine
Hospital by a team. of, horses. °His
father, was overseas at the time:
Evelyn was living in her home
town of Lucknow and was 'visit-
ing,

when the "sleigh ride" to the hos=.
pital had to' -be made:
That was =:op a cold, blustel

"We . didn't quite .:make it to

Paul's father is a•,pretty harsh
critic when it comes to hockey.
talent. With his second son, , Bruce,
barelyout of earshot he' declared:
"Sure he plays hockey. But ; ,I
don't think he's got, what it. takes
