The: regular monthly meeting. of
South ' Kinloss W,MS combined
with the Fall Thankoffering meet-
ing was held at the home of . Mrs.
Orme' Hamilton in town. Presby-
terial president, Mrs. Sutherland,
of Ripley, was guest speaker. She
spoke on:;:Thanksgiving and what
!observance' should , mean in.
our lives, not just` for a day but
for all situations in life. She was
introduced by Mrs; W. F. Mae -
Donald and thanked .by Mrs. Doug-
las Graham who presented a re-
membrance on behalf of the Soc-
iety.
Mrs. Ted 'Collyer presided ' and
Mrs. Ira Dickie supplied for the
Secretary who was absent. Scrip-
ture was read by`Mrs. Willard
Downey and Bible Study was
Psalm 105 with roll call being a
verse with "Thanksgiving". Pray-
er Circle was: conducted. by Mrs.
H. 'Levis,` Mrs. A. Hughes and,
Mrs. Allan, Maclntyre. Readings.
appropriate to the ' season were
given by Mrs. C. Colwell, Mrs.
Bruce Hamilton and' Mrs D.
. Graham. Mrs. Sandy MacLeod.
accompanied by Mrs. H. Buck-
ton sang "God will take , care of
you." Mfrs.' Evan Keith had the
offertory' prayer and Mrs. Ross
MacMillanconcludedthe pro=
gram ;with prayer after which the
directors Mrs. C. Colwell ''and'.
Mrs. Downey assisted the hostess
in "serving an attractive lunch.

Brakes: U.C.W. held their Oct's-
ber meeting Tuesday. evening, Oc-
tober 3rd, ` at : the ' home of Mrs.
John Plaster. The program,Jin
charge of ' Mrs. Jerry .. Cranston,
opened .with the call .to ; worship
and prayer.
A hymn was. sung and Mrs.
Kaiser gave the scripture'. lesson.
The . meditation Was- on Thanks-
giving. lyIrs.

ished the . study book , on Trini-
dad. Mrs: ' Bert ' Alton ,,gave" a
very . interesting ' talk onher ' trip
to Aima College. Mr: Kaiser star-
ted . the new book "Jesus Christ
and the Christian Life."
The secretary's • report was read
and the roll call answered by. a
Thanksgiving verse, with 11 pre-
sent. The treasurer's; report was
given and it was decided to have
the., next meeting Tuesday after-
noon, November 2nd. ..
The meeting closed with , a
hymn and prayer. Lunch was ser-
ved by the hostess, assistd by
Mrs. Karr. and Mrs. Jerry Cran-,
Kingsbridge. C.W.L.
The monthly meeting of t h e
C.W.L. was. held at St. Joseph's
school, Kingsbridge, on . October
4th, at 8:30 p.m,
:The League had as their guests
eleven visiting members from the
Leagues of Lucknow and St. Au-
gustine. There , . were nineteen
Kingsbridge. members present.
Father Caruana opened the'
meeting with a prayer: Mrs. Don-
ald Frayne, read • the minutes of
the . September meeting. ' A thank
you note from Miss Shirley Es-
sery was read. Mrs. Eldon Aus-
tin gave the :treasurer's. report.
Father Caruana opened the `dish
cussion . for t li e : October : 10th
Thanksgiving Supper- This sup-
per will'mark the .60th annivers-
ary
of" the opening of St. Joseph's
church, 'Kingsbridge, and . will be
held in the :'church • basement, at
4 o'clock following a • half hour
service in the church. The menu
was decided` and the St,. Augus-
tine and Lucknow Leagues kindly
agreedto prepare and serve the
banquet. Mrs. Pete McDonald,
Mrs: Joe McMillan, ,:and Mrs. Jim
O'Donnell, make hp the Lucknow
committee. 'M r.s.. Bill. Kinahan,
Mrs. Bill : Redman ' and Mrs.. Leon-
ard .Ckis ohn are on the St; Au-
gustine . committee.
A .midnight lunch of hot dogs,
soft drinks,, coffee and tea were
planned f o r the Thanksgiving
dance which will be held on Fri-
day, October ..6th, at 9:30 . p.m.,
in the church basement
Mrs. Joe Courtney motioned that
the meeting be adjourned after -
which the meeting:: ,as closed with
a prayer' and: lunch. served.

meeting in t b. e . Sunday .School.
room, in the evening of October.
13th. Mrs. M. Hendersonopened
the meeting The meditation was
given by Mrs. N. Johnston. A
hymn , was then sung; "
A : very pleasing solo was rend-
ered by Mrs. Gordon: Barger, en-
titled 'Bless This House." Miss
Margaret ` . Malcolm. • presided at
the piano. Mrs. C. Finlayson gave
several readings, after which • the
guest speaker, Mrs. T. English
of Wingham, was called upon to
address the meeting. She spoke
on "Noah and the Flood" which
is given in the Book of Genesis
in the 8th. chapter.
The offering was then received
and Mrs. J. Little gave the pray-
er. Mrs, Porteous thanked,all who
took part, especially t h e guest
speaker and soloist.
The closing hymn wassung,
and prayer was given . by Mrs.
M. Henderson. A dainty lunch fol-
lowed.

the chapter fromthe study ' book
A reading , entitled "Autumn" was
given by Mrs. Shiells. Miss Flora
Andrew gave a very interesting
talk on Brazil, with . Mrs. Arnold
and: Mrs. Treleaven assisting: The
singing of . a hymn, followed _by
the mizpah benediction, brought
the meeting to a ;'close. vLumch
was ':servedand a social ,half hour
enjoyed.
Zion O C W. ' Meeting
The October:' meeting.. of t h e
Zion U.C.W. was held at the home
of Mrs. 'Lorne Cook, on October
14th. The meeting w a s opened
with , the singing ofa hymn and
repeating ' the . Lord's Prayer in
unison. The roll call " was answer-
ed by twenty members, ,with the
repeating o f a . • Thanksgiving
verse. The Devotional , period was
conducted by Mrs. Chas. Wilkins,
with . the . meditation based. on
Thanksgiving.. The . scripture . was
read by Mrs. Chas. Anderson.
The chapter of the Bible Study
was taken by Mrs.. Wm.: G. Hun-
ter. A reading was given by. Mrs.
D. A. • Hackett.
The .: new Study Book was dis-
cussed .ard'. it was left - till the
next meeting ' before the . treasur-
er ;place the orders for .the books.
The Thankoffering, envelopes were
handed in at ` this meeting. The
visitors for the coming month are
Mrs. Pete. Cook and Mrs. Jim
Hunter.
The Study:. Book . was ' given by
Mrs, John Hunter., and Mrs. Earl
Swan gave a Thanksgiving read-
ing. A hymn- was sung and' Mr.
Kaiser closed': the. meeting with
prayer. Lunch was 'served, by the
hostess and her assistants — Mrs.
Prank Ritchie and Mrs:' Harvey
Ritchie. The November meeting
will be held at the home of :Mrs.
Allan Barger.

Mrs.•', J. W., Joynt was hostess
f o r the Thanksgiving meeting.
Twenty members answered t h e

Mrs. J. W. Joynt, Mrs. W. Hen-
derson and Mrs, • Allan Reid pre-
pared an interesting program.
Mrs. Reid spoke on education in
Trinidad and all sang the . 'Nat-
ional
National, Anthem of Trinidad and Tu-
bago. Miss ' Margaret Rae favour-
ed with a solo.

The meeting was closed and a
social time spent.
Lucknow U.C.W., Unit 3
Unit' 3 met at Mrs. Vernon
Hunter's home for the October
meeting with 24 ladies present.
Theme of the meeting was Thanks-
giving. The leader opened the
meeting with, reading:. a poem "No
use for a house ".'°: A hymn was
sung followed by ' prayer. The
Lord's Prayer and ;the 23rd Psalm
were said in unison. Miss Webster
welcomed the ladies : and gave 'the
meditation on Anniversary Serv-
ices of :Thanksgiving.
The Autumn Thankoffering
meeting was announced for 'Nov-
ember. ` 12th with Miss:. Violet
Saunders, missionary who has
spent 24 years in Japan, to be
the: speaker. . A hymn was sung.
Mrs Lloyd Hall : hadcharge of
the program. Mrs. Jas.. Wraith
read a poem. Miss Ada Webster'
gave an' interesting account of
the chapter God and History from
the Study book. Mrs. Cummings
gave • a piano . ' Instrumental. ' Mrs.
Alex McNay gave readings, "The
first Thanksgiving." and "Thanks
giving day set apart" . Mrs. Hall
read from the book on Trinidad,
"Homes in Trinidad". The roll
call was answered by cookies for
the cookie sale. Mrs. Hall gave
the courtesy remarks. Repeating
the Mizpah benediction closed the
meeting.

son thanking the ladies, and es-
pecially 'Mrs R. MacLeod for her
hospitality. A dainty lunch then:.

ASHFIELD C.G.LT.
The second meeting of : the Ash-
field C.G.IT.. was held at the
home of Joanne Alton, on Octob-
er 17th. The meeting opened'. with
the C.G:LT. purpose followed, by
a prayer and, hymn. The roll call .:
was answered by 8 members. It
was decided to have a 50c fee
for .membership. • Project planning
was discussed. The next meeting
will be at Mrs; Kaiser's home
on . October : 31st at. 7:30. The in-
itiation service will be held Nov-
ember 14th.' Bible Study : followed.
The . topic for the next . meeting
will be.. "Do I' have to like. my
neighbours as well .as love them."
The. closing prayer was given by
Charlene Anderson.

Presbyterian W.M.S.
The . October meeting :. of : the
Lucknow W.M.S. was held on Wed-
nesday,
ednesday, October 16th, at thehome
of Mrs. Roderick ' MacLeod.
Twenty-five members " and one
visitor attended. Mrs. C. Finlay-
son was in the chair, and Miss
Margaret Malcolm at the piano.
The meeting opened with a .pray-
er of thankfulness by the leader
and the singing of : Psalm 86. The
Scripture Reading was read in
unison. Short prayers given by
Mrs. N. McCallum Mrs. R. Boak,
and Mrs. N. Johnston, followed.
In the absence , of Mrs. Robert
-Reid, Mrs. J. Emerson, gave the
Bible Study. Her topic was
"Working' with Success'', seek
first His Highness, and all things
shall be added. After singing a
hymn, the roll call was taken,
was answered witha verse •tak
en fromthe book of Psalms.:
The ladies were . then reminded
of the Thank Offering meeting to
be' held . in the Sunday. School
Room, on the evening of the 13th,
at 8 o'clock, with Mrs. Ted Eng-"
lish, of Wingham, as guest speak-
er, also that the renewals. for the
Glad Tidings were due. An invite-

Mrs. Bert Alton presided on Oc-
tober 21st at the ' home of ' Mrs.
Lorne Hackett a n d opened the
meeting by reading a hymn of
"Thanks." The Lord's prayer was
repeated in unison, followed by
devotions led by Mrs. Herb Wil-
kens. Mrs..' •; Bert' Alton read the
scripture and , hymn "Sing to the
Lord of Harvest" was sung.,
Rev. Kaiser introduced the 1st
and 2nd chapters of the new stu-
dy book "Jesus Christ and ,the
Christiiam'L,ife" and a period of
discussion . followed ' in answering
the questions prepared in t h e
study guide, Each member was
assigned questions from chapters
3 and. 4 for the November meet-
ing to be held at the home of
Mrs. George Henry.
A. skit "A Grain . of Wheat A-
broad" was read by Mrs: Frank
Alton, . Mrs.. Andrew Ritchie, and
Mrs Bert Alton, and told of what
a few bushels of wheat meant to
many starving nations. 14 mem-
bers answered -the roll call with
a verse . with thanks.
. The new underclothing was re-
ceived from Mrs: Blake 'Alton. and
'will be sent for supply work. Our
bazaar is to be on November 27.
and a supper . for, the members
will be held at thechurch on
Thursday, November 25th, a t
which time the bazaar • articles
will be priced.
