lision on Highway 86, just east
of Zetland Bridge and a .couple.
of miles west of Wingham early
Sunday afternoon:

age 78, an area native and res-

Died later ` in London . Hospital

Hospital " is the ' only, survivor of
'the six in 'the Smith car, Mrs.
Robert Smith. of Sault Ste.' Mame,
' the former Etta Belle MacDonald,•
and daughter of John A. 'MacDon=
° ald. She suffered two broken legs,
'chest injuriesand lacerations,,

The three men, with Bob, driving'
his car, were seated in thefront
seat of the ear,and the three lad-
ies were in the . rear . of . the car.
The only survivor, Mrs. Bob
Smith, was on the right• rear seat
of the car.
The
violent .head-on collision. oc-
curred on the south' side ; of the
highway centre line, the portion
the•. Smith. car was travelling on.
The youths':. • convertible.. then
struck. the side of : anothercar
driven by, William . Rintoul• of
Wingham. There was little dam-
.age to, the Rintoul' vehicle. The
other. two cars were. wrecked.
Jean, 'Tom and their father
died at the ' scene of the . crash.
Margaret MacDonald and .Mr: and
Mrs. Bob Smith . were removed
to 'Wingham Hospital and then on
to London. Bob succumbed ' to
his injuries later that evening at
St. .Joseph's Hospital &. Margaret
died at Victoria 'Hospital ;about
2:30 ,a.m. the. Wowing morning.,

the word "MacDonald's Mill". be-
came a name , .synonymous • with
the village itself. The three mem-
bers of the family . killed in the
crash all' lived at home, none of.
them ever marrying. Tom assist=
ed -his dad in the 'mill, which as
one of the last water. powered •
mills; ceased' active operation a
•short time ago. Mrs. MacDonald's •�
death occurred about 1,960.

Bob Smith will be . buried in his
home city of Sault ` Ste. Marie.

complete at time of writing but
