children survive, Lois, Lawrence Jr,.
and James 'Finl�yson.
Mrs. Finlayson's. death' occurred
quite suddenly a few hours after she
had, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.

scarcely berecognized, so badly burn-
ed washis face. However, 'medical

The accident occurred when , Bob
and his brother, Len, were, contrary
to "Dad's". advice,' drawing out flax
chaff to the 'field. and burning it,,, A

fore his :clothes could take fire. The

valued piper, has been active in pro-

of Lionel E. Shoebottoln, a na
ive of Lucknow, who• was killed re
cently during a Niizi bombing' rat
on the ,Merseyside: area in Englan
1VIi. Shoebottoin was .born iii Luck
now, a son of the late Thomas Shoe
bottom who Was employed. as a wood
worker, by the late Adam Thomp
son. ' ,
Lionel. moved to- London with his
parents as a • young', lad.: He ' was
graduate. .of the London Collegiate and
of Toronto. University ni engineerin
During his college course and afte
his' graduation, Mr..Sheebottom 'wa
considered one of the football greats
starring with, •U. of T., Parkdale Gran
'oe club • and Argonaut teams.' In the
last war- Mr. Sho-ebottoi went over-
seas in 1917 as a sub=lieutenant in
the Royal Naval Air Service. He was
awarded the D.F.C. in July, 1918. In
September of the same' year he Was
transferred to the R.A.F. with the
rank of .captain.
Mi-.. Slioebottom `� went `to England
15 years ago to accept a post with
the Mersey Iron and Steel Company.
Ile was also a 'director of the'H. H.
Robertsons Company.
He is survived by his wife who is
in England, and •by two daughters,
Shirley, 18 and Judy, 9, who returned
to Canada' last June and are students
at Branksoine Hall in Toronto . •
• He is also survived by three sis-
ters, Mrs', H. Woonton and Mrs. Wil-
bur Sheldon; both of Detroit, , and
Mrs: Percy Robinson, of. London, and,
one brother,, Arthur Shoebottom; .De;
troit. •
