BRUCE. MOORE, ;;apiarist • of the
Bayfield district, ,was burned to
death early last Tuesday morn-
ing when fire of' undetermined
origin. 'completely; destroyed his
home.. He lived alone. The blaze
`vas "d:nscoi�ered' by young people=
returning from a dance, but had
made such headway as to prevent
anyone entering the home.

GRANDMOTHER'S DAY
Grandmgther's Day was cele-
brated at the meeting of the
Lucknow Women's Institute, held
in the town hall_ Mrs. G. Ostran-
der presided. A paper on the
theme for the day "Faith"; •pre-
pared by Mrs.. W. ' V. Johnston,
was read by Miss Margaret Rae.
The topic, "Hallowe'en Legends",
was taken . by Miss Eva Greer
and "Historical- .Research", by
Miss Mary Mcleod, converter of
that committee. ..
During the ••business period a
reportof the booth conducted at
the Fall Fair showed a balance of
$61..17.' Miss , Mary McLeod was
appointed 'delegate to: the insti-
tute convention to be_ held at
Guelph, November 9 and 10. It
was decided to send cigarettes
to all local - boys Overseas. Miss
M., • MacPherson contributed a
reading and "A Salute to the
Grandmothers" was sung by four
Members in costurnes represent-
ing grandmothers and grandfath-
ers. Taking part were Mrs_ Philip
Stewart, Miss Mary McLeod, Mrs.
W. J. Douglas and Mrs. Elmer
Johnston; with Mrs_ J. W. Joynt
at the piano. A `prize' for the
grandmother with the largest
number..: of grandchildren, went
to Mrs_ R. Hamilton, who has' 23

were served by the ;committee in
charge.
Suffered Heart Attack
Mr_ A. K McLay of Ripley suf-
fered a severe heart attack in
Port Elgin on Sunday. It.is,only
a short time ago a that he oc-
cupied tine ' pulpit off the United'I
Chun'ch on behalf of the temper-
ance cause. Mr_ McLay is editor
of the Ripley Express_

Western Canada.
Honor Bride -Elect '
The home of Mr. and Mrs. R.
Bissett was the scene of a happy
occasion on Tuesday evening of
last week when ` the ladies of the
conanunity gatheredto do honor
to their daughter ; Marjory who
was a „bride-to-be_ : During the ev-
ening Master Ernie Gibson and
Miss Priscilla Rhoad dressed as
bride and groom 'brought in a
decorated wagon with gifts which
were both useful and beautiful..
Marjory made a very fitting
