Lieut. Gordon Munn of Ripley
has been selected , for sea duty 'as
'a meterologist..He is serving: on
an aircraft carrier, : but will be
'-assigned to Canada's new med-•
ivan cruiser as soon as it is ready.
Lieut Munn took an intensive 3.=
months'' course in • naval meteor-
ology in Great Britain before re-
ceiving his appointment. In 'pre-
war days he was':a Department
of , `1'ransport meteorologist.

REID 'McKIM RECEIVED
SHRAPNEL WOUND IN HAND
Mr. and Mrs: A. E. McKim
received, a . letter 'from their son.
Rein on Monday written two
weeks previous, after' he had
been put out of action with a
• shrapnel wound in his hand.
Reid is with ' an • artillery unit
in France. Kenneth Cameron - is
his ser eant -• major. and, it was
Ken' wh $ drove him on his -motor-
cycle - to a field dressing , station
•. to hate the . wound treated. Reid
expected to be out of action about
a week • 'and was 'enjoying the
rest. good meals and living abovi,
ground.
Three of . his gun crew mates
'were , seriously "• wounded. and
' plasma was credited with saving
the life of one Of the "trio.
HAS BEEN ILL WITH
MALARIA 1N ITALY
Mr. and , Mrs.. William Stimson
have received a 'letter from their
son' Bill in Italy informing Them
that he is now out'of of the 'rest
camp, following a lengthy ,illness
with ,malaria, Bill has. been with
the' Princess Pats Light Infantry
throughout the Italian campaign
He is now attacked to a holding
`unit and doesn't know. if '• or
when, he will rejoin his regi
. ment, But he -s not wort*ing for
he doesn't care if he never sees
the front line. again. •
Bill acknowledges receipt of a

smolties . front the S.C.S. Club.
which he much appreciated.
'He and his 'brother Don haven't
met since. July. Don is with an
artillery unit • in Italy and his
last letter. was" hastily scribbled
while trying to get a little rest;

HUGE HAILSTONE IN ITALY.
A freak hailstorm at an IL C.
l_ base in Italy destroyed one
airplane, damaged another and
sent one man to hospital.- Fit Lt.

by a eloudbaiast that left 50 tents
standing in water from one to
three feet deep.
