The letter was written in the
hospital where Bill said hi had
•beeti "for -a little while" With
a twisted leg. It is nothing ser-
ious he added but sure is sere,
altheugh he could .walk .on it a
little at the thrice of writing and
• expected it to be better soon.
Here's what Bill had to say in
part:
"I sure had a lucky break. One
of Jerry's. Mortar bombs landed
behind me and I went up in the
air and came down with my leg
under me. I don't know how ---J
didn't get full Of shrapnel as
there was plenty flying around.
The day before one landed about
six feet from my slit trench and.
covered• me. Oyer with: dirt. I
guess I'm just: lucky.

unit as a carpenter. ,I have been
pretty well all over B. C. up and
down the coast On One of my
tripe in 1943 •1 was traveliing
over to Cape "St. James te put
up a water tank. We were on a
'little air, force beat -called the
Cape Cans O and in the morning
dawn .I looked across • the deck
and' Who should I have the plea-
sure, of meeting but: Jim Hen-
derson 'of'Lucknow. Good old
Lucknow. We were very sur-
prised t� meet each other out in
the Pacific' in a little boat about
sixty feet long. We had some
very pleasant chats at the little
rock island where he is statiOned..
Its not. the loveliest place the
World but it could be Vi.rorse;
certainly enjoy getting The
Lucknow Sentinel;' It is just as,
good as haying • a chat with
someone from home so 1, am en
closing two •dollars for it. Camp-
bell I wishyou to thank the

of, the Red Cross for the lovely
sweater, secIts- and gloves • they
sent me. There is a great satis-
faction in knowing the people
