MacLean; principal of the local High School was ad- vised last ,week that Miss Helen Orr had been awarded a Pro- vince of Ontario Normal School Scholarship having a' value of $200.00. Helen is the elder daughter of LAC. and Mrs. Melvin Orr of town, and is attending Stratford Normal School this term.. In winning . this:, scholarship, students a Lueknow 'High School have been awarded 'thee of six seholarshipspresented in the County- of Bruee: This is: the first year- these scholarships have been awarded.. They number 333 throughout. the Province with' a total' value of $80,000. They are awarded tp :stu- dents of good health - and char- acter -who have attained a good high school standing; • and are mean- to encourage such students intinue their education. he three local winners were John Mowbray who won a $400 university scholarship;. Helen Orr, a $200 Normal School 'scholarship. and Isabel MacDonald of Ash- field a $100 Grade XIII scholar- ship. MC - Cosh who passed away in Lon- don last week. She had been in poor, health. for some time. The annpal Christmas tree and entertainment was held in the Anglican church basententon evening. The children presented a - program of carols, readings, re- citatihns, solos, duets, dialogues and mouth organ selections. The ladies of the congregation served lunch and Santa. Claus distribut- ed the gifts.
