SCHOLARSHIP

Miss F. E. MacLean; principal
of the local High School was ad-
vised last ,week that Miss Helen
Orr had been awarded a Pro-
vince of Ontario Normal School
Scholarship having a' value of
$200.00.
Helen is the elder daughter of
LAC. and Mrs. Melvin Orr of
town, and is attending Stratford
Normal School this term..
In winning . this:, scholarship,
students a Lueknow 'High School
have been awarded 'thee of six
seholarshipspresented in the
County- of Bruee:
This is: the first year- these
scholarships have been awarded..
They number 333 throughout. the
Province with' a total' value of
$80,000. They are awarded tp :stu-
dents of good health - and char-
acter -who have attained a good
high school standing; • and are
mean- to encourage such students
intinue their education.
he three local winners were
John Mowbray who won a $400
university scholarship;. Helen Orr,
a $200 Normal School 'scholarship.
and Isabel MacDonald of Ash-
field a $100 Grade XIII scholar-
ship.
The success of these •students
is a real credit, riot only to them-
selves; but to their teachers as

few weeks in Kincardine.
• Miss Irlrna Hodgins of Kini:ar-
dine High School is holidaying
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Hodgins. :
Sympathy is extended to the
family of the late Mrs. Robt. MC -
Cosh who passed away in Lon-
don last week. She had been in
poor, health. for some time.
The annpal Christmas tree and
entertainment was held in the
Anglican church basententon
evening. The children presented
a - program of carols, readings, re-
citatihns, solos, duets, dialogues
and mouth organ selections. The
ladies of the congregation served
lunch and Santa. Claus distribut-
ed the gifts.
The country would not be in
the mess it is if ,the Indians had
adopted stricter immigration
laws.

ing' two weeks with his parents,

George has to report back for

• One series of snaps shows a-

set off to blast a road bed out of
the side of a mountain.
George had some - interesting
lime and sulphurformations that
sulphur,

Laird River. Crystal rock forma-
tions and I Pacific oyster shells
were among other interesting
souvenirs. George says the coun-
try is a fishermap's .and hunter's i
paradise, which is "right dlwn
George's.alley". '

Floods did a great deal of dam-
age at times to parts of the new
road. It is entirely a gravel high-
way; and an ample supply of
gravel was -always within reach
of the road. What the future of
the hig-hway will be in post -War

dustry, the Coal Controller has
made arrangements to import
from the United States an ad-
ditional quantity of anthracite
coal for use exclusively in pout:.
try 'brooders and hatcheries in
those,, districts which customarily
use anthracite coal. To obtain the
ecial foruse inbrooders and hat-
cheries, a form supplied by • coal
dealers .must be filled out. The

Miss Elizabeth Lane, younger
sister of the, bridegroom, wear-
ing a dress similar to that worn
by the bride with corsage of pink
roses. Mr. Jack Nicholson was the
best man. A wedding dinner was
held in the imperial dining room
of the Royal York hotel, Toronto.
